Two Weeks Later

There was surely some crazy stuff that had happened so far. Xander was apparently split into two parts: One confident and one insecure by some demon who actually intended to kill Buffy.

But, you know how it goes. The main character vanquishes the evil foe and all is well.

My actual research into the whole mystery of me was becoming very difficult as school somehow managed to breathe down my throat even here.

The romance between grandpa and my sister was starting to get too gross by this point. Whenever they did their makeout sessions, I heard some loud moans which disturbed my study work. I really found it weird that Joyce never complained about it to her. Whatever, she was absent from the house most of the time.

I was discussing with Joyce how my friends harassed the new substitute teacher when the most unbelievably weird and shocking thing happened.

As she was bringing omelette on a plate for me, she suddenly closed her eyes. It was almost like she had an epiphany or was confused. I couldn't really place what exactly it was. I'm not a mind reader, am I?

"Oh what is the.." she looked around and then looked at me and probed " Who are you?"

Then after that, she dropped the plates on the floor and fainted.

I was starting to panic and full-on hyperventilate. Images of my parents in my previous life started to flash before my eyes all of a sudden and My first instinct was to run to my phone and I dialled 108. I was duly informed by a lady's voice on the landline that the number does not exist. I was starting to panic, even more, when I remembered that 911 was the emergency number in the US. Then I dialled 911 and some paramedics were outside the house after some time.

I joined Joyce as they took us to Sunnydale General Hospital. Joyce was on a bed attached to some medical equipment and immediately taken for treatment while I waited outside.

I actually met this nice guy called Ben.

He calmed me down as I was still reeling from the whole 'looking at a fainting woman for the first time' thing. He even entertained me with some 'rock, paper and scissors' and gave me his stethoscope so that I could play doctor. He asked me if there were any other relatives of mine to which I replied that I had a sister named Buffy.

After some time I found Buffy with a white sleeveless vest and red pants rushing towards me.

"Hey, how's mom? Are you okay?" Her concern for the family reflected in her voice.

"I'm Okay" I assured her as she hugged me.

I returned the hug.

"And your mom's doing just fine" Ben interrupted us at the correct time when her hug was starting to get may be a little too tight.

"This is Ben. He gave me, uh no.. lent me his stethoscope" I facepalmed at my lapse of grammar while the grownups let out a small chuckle.

"Buffy right? I'm Ben. I'm an intern here" He offered his hands to Buffy which she shook.

"I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Dr Shaun here while your mom's being tested" While saying that, he looked at me and smiled at me for a second. I returned the smile. I felt like I could be good friends with the guy. He could actually work out for Buffy. Instead, all I have is the great epic 'Make out sessions with The Slayer and the grandpa'.

The grown-ups were actually having some serious conversation about Joyce's health report and stuff. I just decided to use the stethoscope to relieve myself of the boredom and prevent my internal musings to go further down a rabbit hole.

When I used the medical instruments to listen to heartbeats, I found that Ben and Buffy had normal heartbeats but I heard a racing heartbeat when I brought it closer to Riley's chest.

"Ben... Buffy" I started.

"Shaun. Not now" Buffy tried to silence me.

"It's ok Buffy. Shaun, what is it?" Ben asked me with a sweet smile.

"His heartbeat is racing. Is it normal?" I returned my question as I pointed my index finger at Riley.

I found Ben and Buffy panicking now.

Within minutes, Buffy and Riley were called to meet another doctor.

I found Joyce being great actually. She just finished her tests with the doctors. I hugged her. I found myself overcome by this sudden wave of concern at looking at my mom like that.

"Mom! Never EVER do that to me again all right?" My concern for my mom had started to overwhelm me and I started sobbing.

"Oh, Shaunie! Doctors have promised me that I'm absolutely all right." She hugged me and caressed me as I rested my head on her right shoulder where I sobbed.

I have already died and lost my mom and dad in my previous life. The very real possibility of losing my mom in this universe too had nearly broken me.

"I feel like a 14-year-old girl! Crying! Sorry. This is embarrassing" I let out a small chuckle.

"This is nothing to be embarrassed about" Mom replied as my sobs now receded

After making mom promise that Buffy doesn't get to know about this whole heart-to-heart, we found myself standing in front of the room where Riley had been admitted.

"Hi" mom greeted the lovers as she opened the doorknob.

"Hey, how are you?" Buffy walked up and hugged mom. Obviously being concerned and all.

"Oh, embarrassed mostly" mom returned her hug.

After hugging she continued "I'm sorry to put you through this. But no more tests, so you can take this pincushion home"

Mom manages to joke despite everything.

"Yes Uh.. let's get out of here" Riley went near the door and offered us to exit.

I and mom smiled at both Riley and Buffy and then we were off.

After Some time

I found myself home with mom drinking some hot coffee while sitting on her couch, Buffy sitting next to her on the couch along with the auburn witch Willow.

"What about a crossword? Some people say feed a cold. I say puzzle it" Willow suggested.

"Oh no, thanks Willow" Joyce replied.

"I like veggies with pepper when I'm sick" I suggested.

"I know you do sweetie. I can make us some later" Joyce looked at me affectionately.

"Uh, Uh-uh. You are sitting right here on this couch today" Buffy commanded mom with concern.

"I feel silly lying here like a lump" I have heard this exact excuse from my mom in my previous life when she was sick. Moms am I, right?

"You could make a game out of it"

Both the summers women and I looked at Willow as she suggested but she merely continued

"A very quiet game about being a lump" she smiled at the end of it.

"I feel fine. Honestly, I am more concerned about Riley than I am about me" Mom reassured us.

"You shouldn't even be thinking about that. He's not worried, so I don't think we should be" Buffy reassured mom in return.

"Mom? Please be a lump for me and stay here and rest" I did the whole puppy dog eyes thing which worked as mom agreed.

After that, I found myself in Buffy's room with me sitting on the floor by the bed, Willow lying on it and of course Buffy walking to and fro in worry around the bed.

"I don't get what he's thinking. Why isn't he worried?" Buffy was upset at her boyfriend.

"Maybe he thinks his body can handle it. He's in really good shape" Willow supplied.

"Nobody can handle a heart attack" Buffy kept crossing her legs over me as she strutted about the room

While I was mildly annoyed, I let it slide as she was perturbed.

"Nobody's body can handle a heart attack" the slayer returned.

"I know. I'm sorry Buffy. I'm trying too hard to make it okay" Willow apologised.

Buffy let out a sigh

"I just keep coming back to The Initiative. It does have that icky government feel to it" Buffy was now speaking from her mind.

The Initiative. That's where Riley worked before I actually woke up here. They were like this secret government organization that experimented on demons, vampires and almost anything supernatural.

Apparently, they were also doing some experiments on Riley and his irregular heartbeat earlier was a consequence of these draconian experiments. They were also responsible for the chip that Spike has in his head which prevents him from hurting any living thing. I was guessing that's why Buffy partially tolerated him.

"It's so unfair. It's like big brother can spy on you all the time, and the second I have something to say, no one will listen" Buffy ranted

Buffy's rant brought me out of my 'tuned out' state.

"There has to be a way" Willow replied

Buffy continued ranting "Like what? Take a tour of the white house and pretend to get lost and look for some door with a sign on it that says 'Secret Government Monster Hunters' ?"

I snickered.

"Shaun, please" Buffy rued my awful timing.

"It's important, I swear"

Buffy rolled her eyes at me as I continued

"If they're really spying on you all the time, say something so you know they'll hear you" I suggested.

Buffy frowned" I gotta go, see you guys later"

And just like that, she was off.

"Did I say anything wrong?" I looked at Willow who just shrugged.

I and Willow decided to play chess for some time.

Later at night, I found that Grandpa had been operated on. It was so exhausting calling him Riley in the name of being sensitive. Now all's good and well with the world and I'll call him grandpa to my full heart.

Also, there was this incident where Harmony and Spike tried to attack this doctor who was supposed to cure Riley by removing the chip in Spike's head. That obviously went peachy as I heard that Spike was still with his chip.

Harmony had again returned but I guess she was always just a joke in this universe.

I think I've actually made this universe my home. I have a new sister, a new mom, new friends and a new grandpa.

One Week Later

After Buffy refused to allow me inside her room, I was just peacefully studying in my room when my older sister entered.

I rested my computer science books on the bed and went towards her.

"Hi, Buffy" I greeted.

She looked at me like she was looking at a ghost.

"You are not my brother" she announced and then she went on to choke my fucking neck.

A/N: Sorry for the short chapter. I had to overcome a little bit of writer's block and demotivation. But don't worry, the next chapter will be long and an important part of the story. Also, this was my first cliffhanger of this story. Do leave your feedback(favs, follows, reviews and PMs).
