Sometimes things just headed to their inevitable destination, either bad or good. Changing its track can't be easy and some of the time it's impossible. And though the tension has died down for a certain friend and family, it's not going anywhere without some sweat and work on it. A certain dark hair girl recognized the problem and quickly acted, though it's not certain if things will go well.
"It's… strange but this looks pretty cute."
"What about this one? It's cuter."
"Oh, that's true, thanks….You? I'll pass."
"Ah! Wait!"
Petunia was currently looking around but not too far away from her parents for souvenirs of course since she knew it might be the last time, she might get to see anything magical.
While trying to look over some handmade witch's keychains, the little girl that confused her at times butted in and suggested her own opinions which the older girl politely decline, she wanted to be on her own right now.
The dirty-blonde hair girl Evan then proceeded to look elsewhere and ignored the gaze she was getting from the younger girl. She felt a tug in her throat but she did not want to worry about this.
"Meow~"
"That's nice… Are you two siblings too?"
Petunia was outside the pet store or wizards' pet store where a variety of animals owned by many witches and wizards were sold. She knelt and look at two kittens strangely similar in fur color to herself and her sister Lily.
"I hope you stay that way forever." She smiled a little watching the two kittens playing with each other while licking each other faces. She was a child, she didn't want to stay mad forever, she wanted what was happening between herself and her sister to stop like every guilt-ridden sad child.
"I myself have missed that chance; you see. I wanted to fix it but I don't how."
Petunia just didn't care even if she was talking to herself. But this became a norm when she and her sister stop playing, hanging out, and barely talk to each other.
"I think you can still fix it, meow!"
"Huh? Who said that?"
"You know, if you want to be friends with your sister again, you could just talk to her. Meow."
"Kitty, is that you?"
Petunia looks down to see one of the kittens that almost had the same fur color as her hair was strangely paying attention to her. Wondering but guess it was the magical world after all.
"Yes, it's me. A cat, a magical cat that talks and also gives advice, meow."
"Wow, so you can like talk to me without even opening your mouth. That's so cool!"
Petunia was still after all a child, though she put down the possibilities due to the kitten being in the magical world.
"Hey, what you just said… Do you… think it's possible?"
"Meow! Avoiding the problem isn't going to help if you don't do something too. It won't be just a timeout; it'll be a timeout for life."
"I don't want that. I want Lily to smile at me again."
"But I still can't help myself, all these bad thoughts are still inside me. Kitty thank you but…"
Petunia was glad someone was here to listen, she held onto a lot of pressure and it was nice, even if the other party is not a human.
"No, meow. You can do it; those bad thoughts aren't bad. It's only natural but you need to think about what's the right thing to do. It hurts when you say bad things to her right?"
"Yeah…"
"So, what if you have bad thoughts? What you do is more important. Just think about what is best for her and you."
"That's… right, you're really smart kitty."
Petunia, now somehow filled with hope and was having a fun conversation in such a long time. It makes her believe that she could fix things before it's too late.
"Ah-hem."
"Huh?" Petunia looks up to see what would seem to be the store owner. The shopkeeper was folding his arms and wasn't seem to be in a good mood.
"What are you doing?"
"Oh, ah, I was just talking to the magical cat. J-Just talking sir."
"Talking huh?"
The storekeeper gets inside his shop and opens the cat crib where the supposed talking kitten was. His eyes narrow down and pull out a little girl hiding behind a cat house beside said talking kitten for the older girl outside to see.
"No such thing as a talking cat."
"You…" Petunia was a little troubled and embarrassed at the shopkeeper who revealed what was talking was an ordinary kitten and the same little girl she knew hiding behind, pretending to talk as the feline.
"Ah… haha… Hi…" Mikoto who was pulled up by the shopkeeper laughed awkwardly at the older girl.
"So, this I just a big joke to you huh? I'm leaving."
"Wait, Petunia-nee!"
Mikoto thought she was about to make a breakthrough until the shop owner butted in, she believed she made things worse by the angry and sad expression the older girl made before leaving.
*!?* Mikoto quickly got off the man's grip only to slip and fall letting a bunch of cat food spill on her. This attracted the cats and all of them began to swarm her, licking her and well overwhelming her. The shopkeeper just scratched his head and told her to get out since he knew she could get out but for some reason was not.
"Severus look at a pet store."
"Oh, I was hoping to get an ow…l… oh, no."
"OH MY GOD! MIKOTO!"
Lily and Severus just came by to see the pet store only to see an overwhelmed little girl getting licked by a lot of cats inside the cat crib. Lily was the first to react and Severus follow suit.
After taking the young girl out, they listen to her explanation. They were a little surprised and sighed at the little girl's impossible mission. They also saw her sad expression and this made them a little apologetic too, well mostly Lily, not so much Severus.
"Mikoto, I know you tried your best. But some things are just harder to fix. It's not something to feel bad about, and I am happy you tried but Petunia… she's, my problem."
Lily then puts on a band-aid on the girl's arm where some pets scratch her.
"…" Though the little girl might seem like she was paying attention to them. Her mind and attention were elsewhere. Her plan wasn't bad, a little of magic unheard of the depressed older Evan girl should have pushed her in the direction to make up with her sister before things turn to the point of no return.
"Thanks, Lily-nee, Nii-san, but I'll be fine now. I think I saw mom and dad head that way. I'll just go over then and not do any more stupid and crazy schemes so that you two do not have to worry about me."
"Okay… but.."
"Good day to the two of you."
"…"
Mikoto left the two with dull expressions due to the obvious lie the little girl just said straight to their face.
"Severus, I think I'm gonna..."
"No, stop. I know Mikoto's quirk."
"?"
"She's not giving up until she succeeds. I should know."
The older brother of the little girl stops her friend. He lived with the little girl for years and knows when to let the girl be since she never does something unnecessary even though he wishes she didn't be so stubborn about this one.
"You think… she could?"
Lily felt a little doubt in her as she looked at her friend with a sad expression with a little hope. Deep inside, she wishes the little girl to succeed where she could not.
"I'm not making any promises… I just know she's not someone that gives up easily."
"…" Lily kept staring at her best friend and wondering before rising her fist to smack at his shoulder.
"Ow! Hey!"
"You have no idea. No idea how lucky you are to have her. I think I said this before too, right?"
"More than one time…" The boy's sweat dropped as he rubbed his shoulder. He knew she adore his little sister since she would only pinch and playfully punch him when things concerning her comes up.
"*sigh*"
Petunia walks sluggishly, after storming off she was not sure what she was feeling. She only knows it was very uncomfortable for her. It was the same tight grip on her emotions.
"I just want to use magic too and… her."
*drip*
"I don't want her to leave me behind…"
She was depressed as time goes on, especially since the day was approaching for her little sister to enter Hogwarts. She was jealous but remembering the little dark-haired girl's words, she also felt guilty and sad.
Deep down, she didn't want her sister to go.
Right now, she didn't know what to do other than reembrace the days she could laugh and smile with her sister.
"What am I doing?"
The girl stops and rubbed off the tears on her cheeks. She was a little flustered.
"And… where am I?"
She didn't notice it before but right now she was in a darker part of the magic community shopping area, presumably Knock-turn Alley. Somewhere she of all people shouldn't even be in.
"…" The area was dim and not much sunlight came down through the place. It looks dreary, depressing, and a little bit smelly. Still, the area was like a ghost town at some part while shady-looking people were moving about with not-so-friendly faces.
"Mom, Dad, Lily…."
The girl whimper and as she quickly hides behind some corner, afraid of the shady people around the area. She already knows how to tell that most people can be terrible and she was just a young girl that anyone could be kidnapped anytime, especially in such a place.
*touch*
"Hii!"
Petunia felt a touch on her shoulder and she darts away with a frightened squeak. She didn't turn or look around unnecessarily, she just follows any path she could see forward where no one was around.
"…"
Whoever it was, pursue her and by the number of footsteps, they were more than one. She was frightened by the thought and idea of bad things happening to her. Getting kidnapped in your world of mortals was trouble enough, getting kidnapped where people can do more was even scarier for the child.
Petunia had believed that the magical world was supposed to be like the storybooks in her room. A place where so many amazing things could happen. At first, the impression of Diagon Alley's magical atmosphere convinced her but now, she was just in denial and scared.
She did her best to cut them off her tail. She took every nook and cranny of small paths only her small body could pass through, and yet they still pursue her relentlessly.
"…"
"Find the muggle girl, she could fetch a good price to a certain lot."
Petunia hides behind a large signboard of some store, it was big enough for her small body to fit. She covered her mouth and tried her best to calm down, despite the terrified tears falling down her cheeks.
Her heart beats at an unhealthy rate, her fatigue showing and she felt she was about to pee herself at how scared she was. She did not believe something could've ever happened to her. She was mad, sad, and frightened. It was too much for a young girl like her.
"The door."
She could see the store's door opening a little and she quickly rushed in. She concluded that she was safer inside a scary shop than out there with people trying to do more than just catch her.
Borgin and Burkes, was the name of the store Petunia rushed into to hide from the pursuers.
"…" Quietly closing the door, the girl drops down and leans back on the door. She covers her mouth afraid they might hear even her sound of breath.
Tears started filling her eyes again, but she quickly rubbed them off. She forced herself to stay calm despite her terrible attempts. She was alone, with no parents to protect her or any normal people in the part of the place she was now on.
"Oh my… a new customer today?" A creepy voice came from behind the counter, the girl quickly stood back up and like a frightened cat puts her guard up. Despite how scared she was.
"W-Who are you?"
"Hmm?"
A grown dusty man came out behind the counter with a terrible grimiest on his face. He was either amuse or annoyed at the girl's words as he stares down at her.
"Is it not obvious? I am the owner of this store." The man waves both hands at the store with a delighted expression as if happy and angry at his possession.
"But what's more important at the moment is whether you are an intruder or a customer. Cause I don't take kindly to intruders…"
The man raised a wand at her, sometimes the muggle girl quickly understand it was no mere stick and it could probably hurt her.
It wasn't a joke at the man's word since this was the darker part of the wizard's world magic shopping district. With the items he owns, he knew he couldn't even take any chances even children.
"…"
"Hmm?"
While the girl was contemplating what to do, the store owner heard the outside ruckus and was about to observe. This frighten the girl; she didn't want those people to come here and certainly didn't want to let the scary man know she was a lost muggle girl.
"Wait, I'm a customer!"
*clink*
She quickly pulls out a pouch filled with silver sickles and a golden galleon. The amount was no small change and this indeed got the shady shop owner's attention without a doubt.
"…."
How Petunia got such an amount was a not-so-stupid plan for her sister's school supply shopping to go wrong. The girl thought, if there was no money to buy her sister's school stuff, she might stay and not go so far away. Thus, she went behind her parent's backs and took it while they weren't looking earlier before she got lost.
"Well, why didn't you say so?" The man threw away his wand at the back of the counter as if it was nothing important and made his best attempt to smile as well as to calculate the amount in the girl's pouch.
"We got assorted items that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else, our products are the best and prices are low."
While the man started showing the girl junks items, he could sell to her dirt expensive, the girl was looking for something else.
She was not dumb; she was a child and still feel threatened by the man. She knows a shady person when she sees one, but a magical store shady owner was different since she was a muggle after all.
"I would like the fastest broom you got."
"Oh, I see. A spunky aspiring child wants to own one, secretly when said parents forbid it? Such a rebellious customer."
The real reason why Petunia said such a thing was because she wanted something to run as fast away from danger. She saw the many wizards and witches flying about back in Diagon alley, she also saw the many stores selling such things.
"Then dear customer, I have a very special broom you might be a thrill."
The man went deeper into his store and make some ruckus along the way.
"Learning how to use a broom isn't easy. Usually, you would learn it in school. But I guess you're one of the unfortunate who didn't make the cut. Haha!"
His words slice her ego a little since it was true in some way but the store owner had thought she might be a squib who was just being rebellious since he had seen his fair share of their kind.
"Here."
"This is…"
Petunia holds onto a broom that looks like any other broom she had seen the other wizards use to fly around earlier but there was one problem for her.
"Old… and is it falling apart?"
The broom on her hand was indeed falling apart as it was very old and it look like it had been taking parts in scuffles left and right.
"Looks can be deceiving girly, it's either you take it or find something else. But I'm not a very patient shopkeeper, especially when my recommendations are rejected."
The shady man was only doing such things since he could see she was a pushover and a child no less. He wasn't going to resort to stealing, no he was just going to sell stuff at an unreasonable price. It was business after all.
"F-Fine! I'll take it!"
*!*
"Thank you for the purchase."
The man took half of what she had and was unknown to the girl. The man overpriced it beyond what others would consider normal.
"So, since we're done with business. What's a squib girl like you doing here?"
The man couldn't care less about her reason as he was busy counting the amount he took from the oblivious girl with glee. He was just making conversation.
"What's a squib?"
"…"
A question that is easy but annoying to answer since it mostly irritates a lot of wizards and witches was unknown to girls and it was her big mistake to answer in such a way.
"My… you don't know what a squib is?" The man stops counting and walks over to her again but with a different tone filled with malice.
"S-So, what of it?"
Petunia didn't like the look he was giving her and stepped back a little more. Once again, she was pushed against a corner.
"Is there a chance you're a muggle?" The man was annoyed and for obvious reasons. He couldn't contemplate how things would for him if others found a muggle in his store, especially someone that became his customer.
"A-Ah…" Petunia knew what the man was talking about, the word 'muggle' was not new to her. Her sister and her parents know it and it was also obvious to her. But right now, it was turning into a red flag for her.
"hm!"
An idea pop into the man's head. He could still see the amount left in the girl's hand and he smiled manically.
"It would be very bad if the people outside find out where you are right?"
The man smiled maniacally and the girl's eyes widen frightened at the man's words. She felt heavy pressure about her situation.
"Unless…"
"…" Petunia saw the man pointing his fingers at the rest of the wizard's currency still in her pouch. She was mad, scared, and frustrated but she couldn't do anything right now.
If she says no, the man was going to tell those bad people outside and they will catch her. Who knows what they will do to her? And this scared her, making her shiver.
"I…"
"As I said before, I'm not a very patient shop owner."
Petunia just didn't understand why her luck was so bad, she never wanted this to happen. The magical world she envisioned, something she envied her sister was about to enter was starting to fall apart in front of her little by little.
"…" Petunia threw the pouch with the remaining money in it to him. She was frustrated since it wasn't her money but her parents, she bit her lips and glared at the man.
"Thank you again for the business but unfortunately, you shouldn't have stepped too close to the door. They can see through the glass."
As the man said, the door was not fully wood and from the see-through glass, a couple of men stood outside with scary smirks. Petunia's eyes widen at the man's remark.
"But you said-!"
"Of course, I kept my word about keeping it quiet. But it was your action that led the buggers outside to see you."
"No…"
*!* The door was open heavily with scary men walking in and they were not messing around as they all look at the now vulnerable muggle little girl with greed.
"Oi, shopkeeper. We're taking her!"
"Be my guest." The shopkeeper just went back to mind his own business as they all came in and stare at their prey.
"I got a broom!"
Petunia shouts still scared but she knew she could get out of there with the magical broom she just bought. Putting it between her legs, the girl gripped tight on the broom.
"…"
"….."
"…."
"Hahahaha!" All of them laughed, even the shop owner. Petunia was confused, she stated they wouldn't catch her since she now has a way to escape while none of them don't.
"What's so funny!? I'll fly away here and let's see who's laughing!"
Petunia then tried to lift off with the broom and deep inside she was excited.
"Fly, broom!"
"…"
After a minute of attempting to fly and shouting out words that she thought could help her fly the broom. Nothing happened, the others around weren't even trying to grab her right away since they were busy mocking her.
"Why isn't it working!? You sold me a fake broom!" The girl called out to the shop owner. She now was feeling embarrassed and angry at being tricked.
"huh? What the blazing hell are you talking about?" The shop owner lost all of his usual business fake hospitality and responds angrily.
"My items are all genuine. Don't just spout out words that could ruin other's business, brat."
"Then why?"
"Can't you figure it out yourself?" The man was losing patience since he didn't want this many people in his store who weren't even going to buy anything. He wished they just take her and leave his shop.
"Because you're a muggle."
"Hahahaha!"
Everyone else kept laughing at her. The girl was losing hope now, she thought but she didn't. She stopped thinking and just started crying without making any sound.
Her fate was sealed.
She was not her sister, who could use magic. She was even lower than that greasy boy who hangs out with her sister or even his little sister who was the only one who still tried to approach her. Right now, she was alone and no one was there to help her.
"Well then boys, let's be done quickly. I wanna eat well this week."
*BOOM!*
But fate and destiny were fickle things when there are extraordinary people in your life. Once fate can be altered in more than one way.
As the men tried to grab the hopeless muggle, without warning a small explosion occurred right behind them. Launching all men off their feet and onto the many parts of the shop.
Though the area of blown up, only the muggle girl was unaffected and it was not her doing either. She was surprised as everyone.
*!*
"Huh? What's happening?" The broom in her hand started to spark a dark color speck of lights as she tried her best to hold on.
"…"
She didn't realize anything until she was in the air riding the broom out of the shop's opened blow-up entrance. Leaving behind her pursuers and the nasty shop owner bewildered.
"I don't know where that explosion came from but that broom… tsk!"
The shop owner realized he had accidentally sold the muggle girl a broom imbued with dark magic that was able to fly on its own. He had forgotten about it since he wasn't able to sell it before.
If words caught him selling something like that to a muggle girl, he knew he would be raided by the Aurors.
"Hraban, follow her."
Just outside the shop owners stood a short dark cloak figure who ordered a large raven on her shoulder to chase the flying muggle.
"How did you…" The shop owner didn't even realize the person was there until her feminine voice spoke out. The man had many experienced and he knew the person was trouble, especially since he couldn't see her face under the dark cloak.
"And where might you be going, Mr. Shopkeeper?"
"I…"
"…"
The man wanted to speak out but for some reason, he couldn't the moment his eyes met the crimson eyes of the person who was now facing him without a very murderous tone. Such eyes were not ordinary even in the wizarding world.
The person was a female and was also very short. Whether it was a female goblin or a child, the man couldn't tell. One thing was certain, he might die here if he crossed the person.
"Get in, I liked to have a word with you."
Both got in the destroyed shop entrance, the other being reluctant but complying. As they went in, the broken door and the debris all around started to form back into their original state. Reparo was a very common spell others used but the amount it was doing was enormous and they were all done by the single dark cloak person in mere seconds and without any chants.
The moment they finally went inside, the door and everything were fixed in no time.
"…"
People could hear screams from outside the store. Though it was a regular occurrence in these parts and no one paid it any attention.
And done.
