Chapter 6: Strange dreams (?) and a second meeting
2 weeks later:
Hitomi couldn't help but feel bad. She had never caught a cold before and her head hurt as if it was going to explode every minute.
The flat they had rented was dark because she had tried to get some sleep. After an eternity she fell asleep.
[Strange... there was a curch... there were so many people and they all seemed to be happy. Children were laughing and there were flowers everywhere.
A really beautiful place...
Oh, there was a woman, walking next to a man. Hitomi could not see their faces but somehow she knew that the woman knew the man. The woman wore a white dress... It looked as if this was a wedding...
They were walking down the aisle and there was the altar.
A young man was waiting for his bride. She couldn't see his face either. Strange, so strange...
She knew the woman, she knew the man who was giving the birde away and she knew the soon-to-be husband but Hitomi couldn't see their faces and that made her wonder what she was seeing.
Suddenly, the bride looked at the man at her side and it wasn't an unknow woman anymore. Hitomi was looking up at the man but still there was no face to be seen...]
"Wake up, Hitomi."
Ren softly spoke as she woke up. She felt better now, the pain was gone but there was a strange smell.
"What's that?", she asked, still feeling dizzy.
"Oh, I got this. Something that should help you to get better.", Ren answered and smiled. "It worked, right?"
"Yeah.", she answered, still thinking about what she had seen. The bride... all this... just a dream, she told herself and stood up. She had been the bride... the bride walking down the aisle... but...
She shook her head again. Dreams weren't meant to come true. And a dream caused by fever was odder than everything else could be.
"You're sure you want to go to the castle with me?", Ren asked. He had been worried about her. Days had passed and the fever... he didn't know what to do...
"Nothing'll keep me from going.", she answered as she stood up.
Oh, the world is turning around a little faster than I remember., she thought, feeling dizzy again but she tried to stand still and forced herself to smile at Ren.
"Plus, you wouldn't be able to go there all alone. You don't know how to handle them.", she added, crossing the room and picking up the dress she had bought more than a week ago.
The red dress was made to make sure she got some attention. She blushed as she looked at the dress and sighed. This reminded her... the time she had spent in Zaibach when she had been nothing but a doll.
She disappeared into the bathroom to change.
Ren smiled as she came back, wearing the dress and looking like she never wore anything else. But he knew better – she hated it, no doubt.
"You're ready?"
"Wait a sec'.", she said, taking her small dagger. "Where to hide it?"
After a few seconds she decided to hide it under her dress – who would guess that there was a weapon behind soft silk?

Van almost fell asleep, sitting in a dark corner, not caring if his father would get angry. He hated days like this – great celebrations with so many girls running around, trying to find a good husband.
Argh! Terrible... why had he to spend his evening sitting here? Folken seemed to enjoy himself. Several girls were talking to him and they smiled as if they couldn't think there was something better than talking to him.
He yawned again. Being a prince wasn't that funny, he thought and he painted an image as he closed his eyes.
A young woman was looking at him again. Her green eyes shinging and she smiled.
Then, he opened his eyes again. Trumpets had ended his little dream far too soon and he looked around notice who appeared now. Probable another pair of rich people who wanted to spend some time near the king.
But then, he caught a look at the pair who entered the hall. They were smiling brightly, and he recognized the woman immediately. The woman he was dreaming about since she came into his room that special night, telling him things about his father and disappearing into the forest.
Then he looked at the man at her side and couldn't help but feel jealous. Who was this guy? Van didn't knew what he was doing but he crossed the hall to get to them.
What was she doing here?
As he finally stood in front of them they bowed, greeting him as friendly as everyone else would have but he noticed the woman blush.
So, it's really her. She remembers., he thought but then looked back at the man. This was the thing that bothered him most right now.
"Well, nice to meet you... Sir...?", he started and waited for his answer.
"I'm Ren and that's Hitoki.", Ren answered before Hitomi could say something.
Hitoki, huh? Van smiled. How near you are to the truth...
As the music started to play again, Van smiled and asked kindly: "May I ask for this dance?"
Ren seemed to say something but Hitoki (?) nodded and followed him.
"So, what brings you here, Hitomi?", Van asked as they danced.
Her heart seemed to skip a beat but her smile didn't disappear. She had been waiting for this question.
"Hush... you just can't think this night when I wanted to scare you was a dream, can you?"
"Of course not. That was not a dream.", he told her seriously.
When she kept silent for a few seconds he said: "Are you going to answer my question?"
"No."
She smiled and he knew she enjoyed this. Enjoyed not telling him what what he wanted to know.
Right, Van. Guess she came just to see you again, right? You'd like that, wouldn't you?
"Tell me or I'll tell the guards that you were here a few weeks ago... in the middle of the night..."
"OK, I'll tell you. Where to start... hmm... I'm a princess but I ran away from my home and then I became a rebel and tried to scare you and when I came home our house was burned down and one of my best friend's died and now I'm here to find out who did this to him.", she told him seriously.
He looked at her for a long moment, then shook his head and smiled.
"Good story but I don't think I believe you.", he said but he wasn't sure. She was so serious about this – and something told him that she would not lie to him.
Hitomi on the other hand wanted to slap herself for being so stupid again. When she was around him she couldn't help but feel safe. She felt like she could trust him... and could tell him everything.
Then, suddenly, she went pale. She had spotted blond hair... long blond hair and she knew who it was before she saw his face.
"No...", she whispered and Van looked down at her.
"What's wrong?"
"No-nothing. Just let's go somewhere else, where we can talk.", she almost pleaded as she dragged him out of the hall to a balcony.
She closed her eyes for a short moment, not caring if he would think she was crazy. Her mind carried her away and she swallowed. There again... something like the strange dream she had had before.
["You can trust my son, Hitomi. Trust him... two lines of destiny crossed...]
"Huh?"
Van called her back before she could hear what the voice was going to say but now she knew she had to trust her.
"Van, listen. Everything I told you was nothing but the truth. I'm Hitomi, the only heir of the crown of Zaibach. I have to find out what's going on here. It's not only in Zaibach, it's here, too and maybe everywhere on Gaia.", she said.
Van looked into her eyes and he knew she was telling the truth. Her eyes were shining and she looked almost lost as she stood there.
Before he could talk to her again he heard a voice that made him turn around.
"Nice to see you again, Lady Hitomi."
Hitomi didn't turn around to look at the man. She knew who it was but thought she could will him away if she didn't look at him. It was Allen's voice.
