Hi again!
Oh, I can't believe this story has 8 chapters now and there are still such great people who read it and review!!! Thanks!!!
Just a few minutes ago, I played FFX-2 (that I bought about 1 week ago)! Such a sad story...and I couldn't help but write on. Please, review!!!
Chapter 8: I'm confused
Hitomi followed one of the servants who was going to show her the room she would live in until she got married to Van.
Getting married... the words crossed her mind again and again and she didn't know what to do with them.
She sighed. Ren was going to stay in the castle, too. After some time he had been acting like the real "big brother" and didn't want his "little sister" to be left alone. Somehow, Hitomi was thankful that he was around – a familiar face in that strange place.
"My Lady? This is your room.", with that the servant disappeared and Hitomi was alone. She opened the door slowly, her hands trembling. Here she was – in a castle again and called princess.
As she closed the door behind her she looked around. The room was big and there were big windows, too. She could see the two moons shine and some stars were shining, too. She crossed the room with more than 15 steps, standing in front of the windows.
"You're always running into trouble, aren't you?", she asked herself while closing her eyes. This room seemed to be a nice place but to Hitomi it was almost like a prison. She didn't want to return into a caslte, not months before, not now.
Her hands were still trembling as she opened the windows, stepping out on the balcony. The air was cold but she didn't mind.
"You can still run away just like you did before.", she thought, looking down from the balcony. If she would jump down from here, she would not be injured. It wasn't too high.
Hitmoi was about to do what she had been thinking about as a voice from behind made her stop in her movements.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Hitomi blushed as she turned around to face Van, who had entered the room. She silently blamed herself that she didn't hear him.
"Uhm...", she started. "Looking at the beautiful stars?"
Van shook his head.
"You're sure you didn't try to jump down and run away?", he asked, coming nearer.
"No.", she said slowly but he shook his head again.
"OK, I was going to run away, you're happy now?"
He was standing next to her as he answered. "Why do you want to run away?"
She didn't see the fear hidden in his eyes. All she knew was that she was a princess again, not the woman she wanted to be. She wanted to be free and now...?
It wasn't his fault, so she could not blame him though it would feel good to shout right now.
Finally, she answered without looking at him.
"I don't want this." His heart skipped a beat as she said that but he sighed in relief when she added. "Being a princess, I mean."
"You didn't have a choice, did you?"
"That's why I went with Ren.", she said, once more knowing that she could trust him.
"Why did you went with Ren?", he asked, getting more nervous every second.
Hitomi laughed suddenly, then looked at him and her eyes were shining.
"Oh, that's a funny story. To make it short, he and some of his friends ran into my father's castle and picked me up. Then they headed into the forest and Ren carried me all the time until we stopped in the middle of the forest. They wanted to leave me there but I asked them to take me with them and here I am now."
"I'm glad you're here now.", he said, before bringing a hand to his mouth as he realized that he had said that out loud.
Hitomi stared at him for a moment, then smiled.
I am happy to be near him, too, but I'm not going to tell him., she thought as she looked once more at the two moons on the sky.
"So, what was this stuff with Allen about?", he suddenly asked.
Van noticed that an angry expression crossed her face as he mentioned the man's name.
"My father got that odd idea that I should get married to Allen – Allen was the one who asked for this marriage in the first place, I guess. I think I destroyed their plans when I ran away...", Hitomi chuckled as she looked at him. "Allen didn't think I would reject him, that's why he went so mad tonight."
"Yeah, he was mad." Van remembered Allen's angry face as he told him that Hitomi was his finacée.
"Let him be mad. I don't care if he'll run around shouting at everyone. He's always that way, I guess.", she whispered.
"So, you told me a little bit about you before, remember? On the balcony before Allen appeared?"
He had been curious all the time but Hitomi smirked.
"That's a story that should be told another day.", she said, smiling at him and his heart ached as he saw her bright green eyes that were shining as she smiled at him.
"That's not fair. Please?", he asked but it didn't work. She just smiled and pointed at the door, telling him to leave her alone.
"You're sure you won't tell me now?", he asked once more as he reached the door and opened it.
"I'm sure." That was all he heard before he closed the door behind himself.

Van was still smiling as he reached his own chambers, that were not far away from her room. Little did he know what was going on behind closed doors in his father's rooms.

"What do you think, father?", Folken asked as he looked at his father who was sitting on his bed.
"About your brother and that little girl?", he asked and the way he said that showed Folken that it didn't bother his father.
"Folken, don't you worry about that. Van is your YOUNGER brother – it's not like he's going to be king or something. Even if he would be older than you he would probably never become king because of his... blood, you know what I mean.", his father explained as Folken continued to look worried.
"But still...", Folken started but his father made him stop.
"Let your brother get married to her, Folken. We've to think about other things, did you forget that?", Goa asked his son.
"I'm sorry, father."
***
"Huh? She fell asleep already?", Merle asked herself as she looked down at the sleeping beauty that was Hitomi.
The cat woman looked at this strange woman and couldn't help but smile. Van – who was like a brother to her – had made a good choise after all.
Merle didn't know how much time passed since she had entered the room. She was still sitting on her bed, looking at Hitomi until...
Suddenly two green eyes stared at her and Hitomi smirked.
"What are you doing here, cat woman?", she asked. "You've been watching me for about an hour by now and you've been talking to yourself."
"You... were awake all the time?", Merle asked, scared and fascinated at the same time. She didn't notice that she had been awake all the time.
Hitomi sat up before she answered.
"Of course I was awake. Who wouldn't? If you want to watch someone who shouldn't notice you, then you shouldn't talk to yourself."
"So, princess Hitomi.", Merle started but Hitomi almost shouted.
"Don't call me princess."
"But..."
"No, Hitomi is fine with me. Hitomi's my name and I want to be called that way."
Then, as if Hitomi had forgotten what she wanted to know and suddenly rememberd, she whispered.
"Why are you here anyway?"
"Uhm... I... well...", Merle didn't know what to do. She couldn't tell her that she came here to check if this woman was good enough for her beloved "almost-brother", could she?
"It's OK, Merle. I'm not going to hurt him.", Hitomi whispered and Merle was once more fascinated by this woman. There was something special about her... something she couldn't explain.
"Is that a promise?", Merle asked, smiling as she made her way to the door.
"That's a promise."
"Don't you forget that.", Merle said before she left.
Hitomi sighed and summoned one last time the picture of the young prince of Fanelia before she allowed herself to finally get some sleep.
