Chapter 9: Flying pillows

Hitomi woke up long after the sunrise. She yawned but still didn't wanted to open her eyes.

"What a strange dream.", she whispered, her eyes still closed.

She had been dreaming about dancing with young prince of Fanelia and becoming his fiancée... such a strange dream...

"So, don't eat anything before you go to bed, Hitomi.", she thought as she yawned again.

"Good morning.", someone whispered near her ear and Hitomi was sure that it was Ren who wanted to make her get up.

"Just one more minute, I'm going to be up soon.", she answered slowly and turned away from the voice as if it would go away if she ignored it.

"You have to get up now.", the voice said again and Hitomi groaned. She turned around and opened her eyes, just opening her mouth to tell Ren what she thought about him right now when...

"Aaahhhhhhhhh!!!!"

Hitomi screamed as she saw who was standing next to her bed. Brown eyes were looking at her in amusement as she almost fell out of the bed. She blushed as she checked if she was covered by her blanket before she looked up at him again.

"What are you doing here?!", she yelled, grabbing the blanket and standing up, wearing the blanket like a coat so he would not see ANYTHING.

Van was smiling as he saw her blush again. "She's really cute... even if she freaks out..:", he thought as a pillow hit his head.

"Ouch! What was that for?", he asked, looking at her in bewilderment.

"WHAT THAT WAS FOR?!" She was really angry by now, grabbing another pillow.

"That was for sneaking in my room while I was ASLEEP and for waking me up and scaring me like you did!!!"

The pillow missed his head but Van was still smiling. Actually, he was fighting not to laugh about what was going on.

"Hey, sleepyhead, I just wanted to wake you up, OK?", he laughed.

She turned around, looked at the sky and frowned.

"It's almost noon!" She couldn't believe that she had slept that long! She hurried to pick up her clothes when she noticed Van again who was looking at her. He was smirking!

"Why are you still here?!"

"I'm going! I'm already going!" Van hurried to the door, leaving her room, still smirking.

"Where is he?!", Hitomi hissed as she left her room, fully dressed and still mad. What was this guy thinking after all?

"Well, I sneaked into his room, too... that night when I wanted to scare him but that wasn't really the same, was it?", she thought, feeling lost in the many corridors.

"Need some help?"

This time she recognized his voice at once. Van was leaning against a wall, watching her and he was smirking AGAIN!

"Don't you ever get tired of this?", she asked and chuckled softly.

"What do you mean?" Hitomi could tell he didn't expect her to say something like that.

"Just forget it."

"No, tell me."

Hitomi had no idea where she was heading but she walked through the corridors as if she knew perfectly what she was doing while Van followed her.

"Don't you have something else to do?"

As he shook his head, now walking beside her, she sighed.

"Oh, you're in a bad mood today, aren't you?", Van asked and wondered why she acted this way. He didn't know her for long but he thought that she wasn't usually acting like this.

"Well, actually I would like to get some of my other clothes that I left down there in the city.", she answered honestly, avoiding to look at the dress she was wearing.

"Oh, what's wrong with that dress?"

Van couldn't see why she didn't like this dress. It was a beautiful one, after all, she had been wearing it last night and every man had been looking at her.

Just then he noticed that Hitomi breathed in slowly as if she was about to shout or something like that but then only said: "It's a dress."

Oh, that explains a lot, right?, Van thought still not understanding what she meant.

"It's a DRESS.", she repeated and finally looked at herself. She looked exactly like the little princess that had left her fathers castle about more than half a year ago.

"Actually I'd rather like to wear something that doesn't make me look like a princess.", she finished, turning around.

"Fine, I'll walk you to the city – some time I can spend outside won't hurt, I guess.", he gave in, smiling again.

The streets were full of people, all of them talking about nothing but prince Van's fiancée. Hitomi could hardly stop herself from yelling at someone.

"Will they ever stop talking about this?", she asked Van who was walking beside her.

"I don't know... maybe until we get married... then they'll talk about the wedding or what name we'll give to our first child..."

He trailed of when he saw Hitomi staring at him angrily.

"What did you say?", she hissed not waiting for him to answer. "If you talk about having children again anytime soon I may remember that you're a royal and I'm supposed to be... well, just me... the princess of the rebels at least."

When he mentioned having children the thought that she would REALLY get married to him hit her. Well, it took a while until she really understood the meaning of getting married.

"Here we are!", she whispered as she entered the rooms she and Ren had been living in.

Van was already looking around curiously while Hitomi picked up her clothes and the sword she had to leave here last night.

"Ready?", she asked as he was still looking around when she had finished picking up her stuff.

"Oh, yes, of course." Van wondered what it was like to life in such a small flat but expected that it wouldn't be that bad.

"What I wanted to ask... well, what did Ren say about all that?", Van asked seriously while they left the house, already walking back to the castle.

"Ren? He was really angry, I guess... you shouldn't mention that "children- thing" to him either or he might get the idea that something "could happen to you"."

"Is that so?" Van smiled. Ren was really acting like a brother who tried to protect his sister from everything and he could imagine that he meant every word he said.

"Maybe I should give him a reason to be angry at me?", he asked himself, still smiling.

"Hitomi?"

When she looked up stepped closer and before she could do anything he kissed her.
