Hi!
Thanks to everyone who reviewed!!! You keep me writing this story! I'm sorry for spelling or grammar mistakes but I have no beta reader and my mother's tongue isn't English... so, would someone do me a big favor by being my beta reader?
Chapter 10: Men with wings
"Hitomi?"
When she looked up, he stepped closer and before she could do anything he kissed her.
The world seemed to disappear – nothing was important anymore. There were no colours, no sounds; she felt nothing but his lips that were touching hers.
And then she wasn't Hitomi anymore. She wasn't standing in front Van anymore.
[She didn't knew this place, had never been there but she knew one thing: This place was called Atlantis. Hitomi couldn't tell why she knew this – she just knew it.
There were stairs right in front of her and without thinking she started to go upstairs. It was a beautiful sight – the sky was light blue and there was not a single cloud.
When she reached a platform, she couldn't help but stare at the people she saw. Three men... Hitomi was not sure if she could call them men...
The men had... wings...
"Wings!", she screamed but the men didn't notice her. It was as if she could see but could not be seen. They were so beautiful.
Only a few more steps and she could touch them, could look into their eyes...]
"Hitomi!" It was Van's voice calling her back to reality. The picture of the three men disappeared and she looked into Van's brown eyes that were full of concern.
"I'm fine, Van.", she whispered not sure herself about what she was saying.
"What... happened?", he asked, acting as if she didn't say anything about being fine.
A short moment passed while Hitomi thought about what to tell him. She was not sure about what she had seen either so she just shook her head, forcing herself to smile.
"It was just a dream, I guess. I got caught by a dream."
"You're sure?" He didn't seem to believe her. He had seen her green eyes, wide and looking at something nobody but her could see.
"C'mon, Van. There's nothing to worry about.", Hitomi laughed, trying to make the worried expression on his face disappear.
Then, it hit her. Before that strange... dream... he had done something... Something...
"VAN!", she screamed.
"What?" His eyes widened as he understood.
"Didn't you just do something?" She looked so innocent that he could hardly believe that she was angry at all.
"I can't remember doing a thing.", he lied and smiled as he saw her smile, too.
"You know what, Van?" A soft expression crossed her face, as if she remembered something. "I'm just going to tell Ren."
"You wouldn't.", he said at once.
"I would!", she hissed and corrected herself. "I will!"
"No, you won't."
"And why not?" She was angry, so angry but she couldn't tell him... could not tell him...
"Thief.", was all she whispered, not waiting for him to answer.
He blinked. What was she talking about now?
"Hitomi?"
"Don't talk to me." She turned around, leaving Van behind as she headed back to the castle. She would figure out what to do... at least she would have to figure our why her heart was beating so fast...
"It was just a kiss!", her mind whispered but she knew that this wasn't the truth.
***
"That jerk!!! He had to do this, hadn't he?! I wonder why...", she thought as she brought a hand to her lips as if she could bring back the feeling of his soft lips.
She was walking through the corridors again, this time alone. The kiss was not the only thing she was thinking about. Who were this men with wings? And, that was the most important question to her, why had she seen them?
She remembered everything she had seen... maybe she wouldd have seen more if Van hadn't brought her back... from wherever she had been.
"Atlantis.", she whispered, remembering the name that had crossed her mind as she saw the men. "That's at least a clue. That's the key to get some answers.", she added softly, looking around.
"Argh! Where am I?" Hitomi looked around again and sighed. "Great! You got lost again!", she told herself silently.
"Do you need help?"
"Who's there? What do you want?"
"I asked if you need some help.", Merle asked again, stepping out of the shadows. "It's easy to scare you, you know."
"I was not scared.", Hitomi lied but Merle only laughed.
"Well, well.", the cat woman said. "Do you need help?"
"I guess... I guess it would be nice if you could show me how to get to my room.", Hitomo admitted finally.
"You have to learn where your room is, Hitomi. This will be your home for a long, long time.", Merle said, as she turned around to show her the way.
While they were walking, Hitomi realized that she could ask Merle about the winged men. Maybe she knew something... and if not... well, it wouldn't hurt to ask her.
"Merle? Do you know something about winged people?"
It seemed as if Merle didn't want to answer but then she sighed and said: "Why are you asking, Hitomi?"
What to tell her? "I guess I saw a picture in a book, once, when I was much younger. It just came to my mind. I couldn't read by myself when I saw the pictures so I don't know about what or who they are and... well, I thought you could tell me?", Hitomi told her and suddenly understood that this wasn't a lie.
She remembered that day... when she had looked at the pictures in a strange book... her father had caught her by looking at this book and she knew he had thrown it away.
Merle seemed to relax when Hitomi had answered and said.
"You don't have to think about it too much... it's a story people tell their kids."
"Tell me, Merle.", Hitomi asked.
Sighing, Merle began to speak: "A long time ago, a time that no one remembers, Gaea was the home of the winged people who werecalled "People of Atlantis". They were living at a place no one today knows where it was. It may still exists, I don't know but one day... all of them disappeared and they were never seen again."
"That's it?", Hitomi demanded to know.
"That's what the story says.", Merle said and Hitomi could tell that she wasn't telling the truth. There was more... there was something Merle didn't want her to know.
"Here we are. Your room, Hitomi.", Merle laughed as she pointed at a door.
"Thank you, Merle."
But Merle was already gone.
"Strange...", Hitomi thought before entering her room. She would figure it out. She would find the answers she was seeking.
***
Merle hoped that Hitomi would forget about the man with wings. She really hoped that she would forget.
