A Blood Stained Path

Chapter 2: First Blood

When I finally awakened from my unconscious state, the moon was directly overhead and the sky was littered with the tiny specs that were stars. I looked around and saw faint lights coming from the direction of Musutafu, deciding to walk towards them.

I slowly stumbled through the woods, mulling over what had happened to me for lack of anything better to do. I soon ran out of energy however, since I was still only 4 years old back then, and felt hunger start to take hold of me again.

In hindsight, I know it would have been better to completely drain the mountain lion from earlier, but I didn't have a clue how bad of a mistake I'd made.

I slowly drifted to sleep, my tiny body exhausted and still out of it from getting knocked unconscious twice in the last 2 days.

The Next Day

I awoke feeling rested and well, save for a splitting headache that came from further into the pits of hell than my quirk. The same pain radiated through my throat and gut, my body screaming at me to drink.

After stumbling through the woods for an hour, my little legs couldn't walk any further, and I slumped against a nearby tree. All was quiet for a while, only the singing of the birds and rustle of leaves in the wind accompanying me.

The world remained peaceful, and I could think about the different sensations my quirks brought. I sat under the tree for a few hours, before a heard the snapping of a twig again.

Expecting another mountain lion, my body tensed up and I frantically searched my surroundings for any traces of one. However, there was nothing until another sound pierced the deafening silence.

"-opefully it isn't too long before we reach the campsite, my back is killing me!" A feminine voice rang out.

"Don't worry, according to the map it should only be another mile or two." A male voice replied.

"I know, I know, but maybe we could stop for a quick snack. I'm starting to get really hungry." The woman said, coming into my line of sight as I hid in the bushes.

"That sounds good, I could do for a bite"

"Good, now lets just find a good place to si- ouch!" she had started to look at her surroundings rather than what was in front of her, causing her to receive a cut from her ankle to her knee as she passed by a particularly large bramble.

"Are you okay?" The man asked, helping the woman lie down with her back to me. "That's a bad cut, let me get the first aid kit from my bag. Stay there, all right."

He turned around to put his bag down and get their first aid kit, and then my instincts and hunger took control. I lunged at the woman, biting down into her neck and savouring the sweet taste of her blood in my mouth, my hands covered her mouth, futilely trying to stifle her screams.

The shriek echoed throughout the surrounding area, and the man whipped around before prying me off of the woman, my sharp, metallic claws ripping through her back and leaving deep gauges.

"What the hell!? Keiko? Keiko can you hear me!?" He turned to the now named Keiko and we both watched as the fire of her spirit was snuffed out. "Keiko! Keiko no! Please don't leave me! We're gonna get married right?" His voice was dry and his eyes teary. "Keiko? Keiko!? KEIKOOOOO!" His wet eyes turned to me, rage plain to see on his face. "Damn you kid! DAMN YOU!"

He charged at me, his hands balled up into fists and poised to strike. My instincts moved my body again, automatically using my newly acquired quirk and spewing out a thick mist, blinding him. My senses guided me to him, and I came up behind him, before plunging my fangs into his neck and my claws into his skull.

He slumped to the ground, dead and I enjoyed his blood more, not wasting a drop of what was left in his body, then doing the same with the woman. I let out more smoke for a few minutes, guiding it to a nearby cave before teleporting there.

Quirk: Smoke. The user can produce a smoke like substance from their body and control it.

Quirk: Mist Jump. The user can sense everything within a mist or smoke like substance and can warp anything anywhere within it.

I came back to reality and curled up in the back of the small overhang, getting up as high as possible and crying until my emotional exhaustion dragged me back into the depths of sleep.

One and A Half Months Later

All I did over the next one and a half months was leave the cave to drink and return to the cave to cry and sleep, making sure to avoid any trails.

However, eventually, my hunger got the better of me and I was reduced to my pure, animalistic needs. I hightailed it towards Musutafu, making it to the city outskirts after only an hour due to how little my instincts cared about anything other than food.

Sniffing the air, I sensed that day's prey and stalked my way towards it. I saw several men talking in an alleyway and started to release smoke to blind them. Once the smoke was thick enough, and filled the alley, I warped down to the first man and plunged my claws through his chest before my fangs went into his neck. I felt the quirk enter me, this one feeling cold and sharp, as well as more fluidic than the others.

The man keeled over after I drained him and I quickly moved onto the next. This man was waving a knife around like he was insane, but I quickly grabbed his wrists, setting them ablaze, and he cried out in pain before I drank from him too.

The third man tried to run but I swiftly snuffed out his light with a high-pressure blast of water to his skull. He collapsed and I drank his life liquid before fleeing back to the forest.

Quirk: Combustion. The user can make anything combust after they touch it.
