Connor finally got the courage to call Betty, in the present time. He knew she would be old, but it didn't quite hit him until he heard her frail voice. She was quite happy to hear from him, and they soon made arrangements to meet at her home.
He went their and found an average old ladies house. Lots of pink flower pattern drapes, many pictures in antique frames on the mantle piece, and a tea set with rose patterns in the center of the table. The teapot was full of tea, and there was a plate of fresh baked cookies next to it. We started drinking tea and eating cookies, then the conversation started. I found out that she married a man who ended up dying just a few years earlier. He had been a fireman; he was one of them fighting the fire that burned down Lemon Street. Then he asked her about the family. This brought some tears to her eyes.
"What?" he asked, "Is it your mom, Fitzy, Homeboy?" From the look in her eyes at the last name he knew that it had something to do with Homeboy.
"What happened to Homeboy Betty?" he asked in a gentle voice even though the suspense was tearing at his heart, along with the look in her eyes.
"He was murdered, the case was never solved," she barely panted out between tears.
At that moment Connor knew that he would once again travel back in time, except this time it would be to save Homer, rather than his mother. All he needed was a when and where. Once again he would save someone's life. The main worry on his mind now wasn't how he would save Homer's life, but rather if his time travel caused this tragedy. Was he the reason for Homeboy's death?
