There are things in this world that can haunt people. Monster seemingly do exist in our minds... maybe even in real life.
"What tha FUCK do you think you're doing?!" screamed Sasha. Hellboy had just waltzed into her room and began pulling books off of her book shelf scattering them on the floor not caring the mess he was making or the poor books as they struck the floor.
He paid no attention to her outbursts, that is until her tail hit home.
"Whoof! I'm getting a book!" he yelled back. He pushed her tail off of him, then seemingly found what he was looking for and began to walk toward the door to leave.
"Where on earth do you think YOU'RE going!? You have to pick up those books Red!" she yelled after him.
"I will when I come back."
"Oho no, I know that one and it isn't going to work." She said raising herself out of the computer chair, but Hellboy had already gone out of her room.
Storming out into the hallway she saw his red tail twitch as it disappeared around the corner on the bend. Unfurling her wings she stomped after him yelling for him to get back here or else. She rounded the corner and saw him giving HER book to some HUMAN. Growling she made her way toward them and backpedaled her wings giving them a gust of air.
They turned to her and the human female gaped at her. Ignoring the human Sasha walked up to Hellboy and quite literally got in his face.
"Give me back my book...now." She added letting her growl rise into her chest, the kind that you felt before heard.
"No. We're going to use it and you're going to get dressed." He said smirking at the last part, dragging his eyes down her.
Sasha had run out of her room in her usual wear, a pair of khaki shorts and her black tank top, he liked to tease her about her short clothing, him almost always in thick pants and a jacket. Thrashing her tail, she unleashed another growl at him, raising her wings up above her to a point, to look more threatening. Hearing a tap of wood against the stone behind her, she spun to face it.
"Father." hellboy and her said at once to the man, bobbing their heads in respect, beside the man stood Abe.
Sasha's face grew red she had been caught fighting with her new brother, again. Although Hellboy was closer to her in physicality, she never found herself nervous in his presence, it being entirely a sibling-like relationship, but with Abe... She didn't know what to call their relationship.
They treated each other with mutual respect and nervousness, both unsure of each other. Frequently thanking the Gods she had learned at an early age to put up barriers in her mind. She did not want Abe in there plundering her thoughts and gleaning what she felt around him, although she liked to think that he would never try to probe her out of respect.
She liked Abe. That much was clear to herself, but in what way?
She had stayed up late with that one thought many a night. She had even ventured to his tank to watch him sleep, floating in what seemed like a hibernation state. His mind seemed to register her as a friendly being and he never seemed to rouse when she was watching him. She had been caught once in his room uninvited, but thankfully she hadn't been watching him, just staring off in thought. He had woken up to see her staring at the water's light reflection on the floor. He had claimed that she had woken him up by thinking too hard and had asked her if she wanted to talk about it.
Instead of saying what was really on her mind, she began with her heritage and how people reacted to people like 'us'. He had listened intently and offered counsel among many other things. One of which was a raw egg, she had declined politely and went back to bed.
But here he was standing beside 'Father' looking down upon them. When he saw the human he bobbed his head at her. New hatred flashed up inside her. Did he know this human? Another growl started to rise up in her chest, shaking her head she started to stalk up past them and into the main lobby. Not wanting to be heard by Abe.
"Sasha?" sigh, Father always knew somehow.
Closing her eyes she braced herself for a scolding for her attitude. She turned around and faced them, but instead of scolding her he walked up to her and patted her on the arm.
"It's been a while, eh?" he quietly but so clearly spoke to her, she knew both Hellboy and Abe had also heard it, she watched from the corner of her eye Hellboy's brow raise. She jerked back from Father, her eyes widening swirling a red with amber flakes in it. She wanted to wrench her arm away and disappear into a small dark place. Abe and Hellboy watched on confused, the human silently staring no real change in her facial features. Sasha bent her head down in submission, Father, as always, had seen past the facade.
"Yes... It has been." she pulled out of his grasp gently, reversed to back walk past Abe, Hellboy, and then the human. Her tail dragged and her wings dropped back to her shoulders their tips grasping to cloak her. She began her silent walk back to her room, but she could hear Red questioning Father about what just happened. "What was that all about?"
Once back in her room she slammed the door knowing it would echo down the halls, hopefully, all the way to where they stood. She regarded all the strewn books on the floor and groaned that she had forgotten to snatch the book back from the human as she passed.
Sighing she jumped, opening her wings to slow her descent, and landed on her stomach on the bed like a child. She pulled the stuffed dog Abe had given her when she came to this place. Hellboy had given her some candles, thinking she would be nocturnal, and that it 'fit her aesthetic,' he had guessed right. Both presents had pleased her greatly, and she used the candles on long nights when she felt so very alone. The gifts had shown her that they cared and wanted to welcome her to this new place.
She pulled the dog up to her eyes and let the silent tears fall. She had never sobbed or broken down, it wasn't something she was proud of, and it probably meant she was not attuned to that part of her emotions but it did make it easier for the others, the not crying often thing. She had found out that they hated it when girls cried.
Smiling into the stuffed animal at the memory she closed her eyes exhausted and yet her brain churning at the idea that another human, another monster but not the kind she found comforting was now to be in their midst. She had a lot to think about tonight.
