Author's note: My first Inspector Gadget story. I got the live-action movie just recently. I really didn't realize how much I liked him until that point. So I figure the least I can do is write something like this.

Chapter 1: The assignment
-
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
RESIDENCE INN
9:58 A.M.
Inspector Gadget was relaxing in his hotel room. Brain was napping on the floor, and Penny was busy playing Sonic Advance 3. There was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it," Gadget said as he got up and opened the door. There was a bellboy standing there. The bellboy handed Gadget a note.
Dear Inspector Gadget,
Normally I give you assignments to you in person, but my schedule is a bit packed. The bellboy who handed you this note is Andrew, my nephew. He agreed to deliver your assignment for you.
There's some suspicious activity going on at SEGA of America HQ, and American players of recently produced SEGA games have been acting strangely. I want you to check it out.
Signed, Chief Quimby.
P.S. Be careful. This message will self-destruct at 10:00.
"Thanks for delivering the assignment, Andrew," Gadget said as he crumpled up the note. "I'll get on it immediately. Oh, could you throw this away for me?"
"Sure," Andrew replied, taking the note and walking away with it. "Gee, I wonder why Uncle Quimby was so eager to give me this job."
Shortly after Gadget closed the hotel room door, the grandfather clock in the hall chimed ten. The second chime was drowned out by a small explosion which did not leave Andrew in perfect condition.
"Oh. Maybe that's why."
"Come on, Penny, we're going to SEGA of America HQ. Put that GBA down and follow me," Gadget said once the door was closed. "Brain, stay in the room. I don't think they allow dogs in the building. We'll be back soon."
Penny's GBA clattered to the ground with the word PAUSE displayed on it.
"SEGA? All right! I love their video games!" she exclaimed. Then she whispered to Brain: "Follow us and make sure nothing bad happens to Uncle Gadget."
"Penny? What are you doing?"
"Nothing, Uncle Gadget. Just saying good-bye to Brain. Let's go."

Well... just review the story. It's my first try at Inspector Gadget fiction, so don't expect something that good.
