Author's note: recently, this site has seen a lot of angst-filled poetry written in free verse. I thought it might be nice to add a poem that actually has a form. Three points to whoever identifies the structure.
In solitude within my mind, I rest
In silence crouch and hide myself away
Avoiding Life's cruel blades, its barbs and jests
That others might have bliss or fear this day.
Avoiding too its joys, its gentle song
Likewise relief, regret and irksome grief
My bane, they haunt the path I walk along
Attack my grim façade with fearsome teeth.
For they know not the chaos they might wreak
If I succumb and give them what they will
Appalling feats too full of Death to speak
Await this world – a world I mean no ill.
Alone I shield myself from all I see
It is my fate. The world shall yet be free.
