Author's Note: A "sequel" of sorts to my little musings in Duality. Yet again, I hope this isn't too weird. Here ya go, sterlingpyro, hope this meets with your expectations.
Disclaimer: I don't own Legend of Mana. I don't even own my own copy. Geez. Squaresoft does, and they probably would have lots to say if I didn't recognize them.
I was born into a world of chaos.
There was pain, so much pain, and too many voices in my head. I would forget things, and faces...so many faces.
Maybe it's all a dream, this world I'm wandering in.
Sometimes, I can hear her, when I think carefully. She wants my death, anyone's death, really.
She's angry with me. She says she wants to hurt me. I hope she doesn't stay mad.
I don't like to fight with her. I just want her to have good thoughts, to stop trying to hurt...him.
She wants to hurt him.
I used to think I was a child, and that he would lead me to a family.
Then I saw my face in the pond...I'm a woman.
I'm not helpless, that's what she tells me. That's what he tells me too.
I can't see things clearly, and then I am in a strange maze, with nowhere to go.
But he always finds me. And she says mean things about him.
Because...he makes me think clearly...
He tells the bad men to stay away, he keeps me from falling.
I don't like falling, that's when she is strongest. I wish she would like me. I don't hate her.
She wants to leave him. I can't.
He needs me...because I need...him.
He caught a butterfly on his finger once, so that I could touch it. It left a rainbow on my finger. He smiled.
"Pearl...are you there?" he says, and all I see are blue butterflies, in the green meadow...
"Umm...I...was..." words are so hard. I wish he could see the pictures...the ones that I see when he smiles...
"If you need to rest, there is an inn up ahead," his words float like silk scarves in the ocean...a giant blue ocean.
"Your eyes...are blue," I wish he could see it...but she doesn't want him to. She wants him to die...
He's smiling that smile again. She hates that smile. I hope he can't hear the scream in my throat...
"Pearl!" red jagged claws...he can't see them...please don't leave me...leave him alone...
"Don't...leave me!" he can't be swallowed by the black...where did the blue go? She's laughing, make her stop laughing!
"Never," a little blue flower...hidden in the forest, "I'll never leave you, Pearl."
"Blue..." let me sink into sleep, maybe she'll like me...and we can save him.
"Just don't leave me."
