Staying Up
"Ugh, so tired..." Kyo rubbed his eyes and blinked wearily at his computer screen, peering at the bottom left corner of his word document. To his dismay he realized that in the six hours that he had been researching and typing his report he had only managed to pull together two and a half pages of the assigned five page essay.
Fighting back the rather powerful urge to scream in frustration and smash the monitor he instead settled for shoving the keyboard away in disgust and flopping back on the floor. At least that what he had planned to do; the flopping bit was cut short when he let himself fall back-- and land right in someone's lap.
With a yelp he bolted upright and scrambled away from the intruder, clutching his chest in shock. Focusing on the other's face, his eyes widened in recognition and his temper flared, "Haru! What the HELL are you doing here this late?! And in my room!"
Haru smiled a little and replied, "If you had actually came downstairs to dinner, you would know that I'm staying the night. And as to why I'm in your room... I got up to go to the bathroom and--"
"You got lost?"
"No! --and when I got out I noticed that your light was still on so I peeked in to see what you were doing still awake." Here Haru looked a little sheepish, "You looked exaughsted but you were still working so hard; I couldn't bring myself to interrupt so I just sat down and figured I'd wake you up if you fell asleep at the computer. That was an hour ago and it's two in the morning now."
Kyo stared at him, trying and failing to process Haru's reasoning through his sleep-deprived brain. Finally he just did his best to scowl at his cousin without yawning and turned back to his essay hoping Haru would just go away if he ignored him. No such luck. Half an hour later, Kyo's eyes began to slide closed of their own accord and his breathing started to even out. When he slumped forward, Haru's strong, slender arms wrapped around the red-head's waist and pulled him back to lean against his chest. For a second, Haru was surprised that Kyo was, in actuality, a good deal smaller than he was. Not heighth-wise, they were equal there; but in body build. Kyo had a much smaller build than the younger Sohma did. How nice, Haru thought as he lay down on the floor holding the red-head tightly to his chest. Kyo mumbled something incoherant and subconciously curled into the warmth of the embrace. Haru smiled as he too fell asleep.
Epilogue
Yawning, Shigure padded up the stairs towards the bathroom and paused outside Kyo's still lit bedroom to tell him to go to sleep but shut his mouth at the sight of his cousins curled up asleep on the floor. He smiled and snagged the cover from Kyo's bed and spread it over them. Retreating to the hallway, he turned the lights off and shut the door. Sometimes relatives could just be so adorable.
