The usual bussle of workers at lunch time was interrupted by the sound of a scream. Granted, in years past, such a sound would have gone unnoticed, but now, it was a rare thing to hear. Managers and cubicle dwellers paused in the middle of talking to their waitresses to look up in the sky, to focus on the sound and the object falling rapidly down at them.
The awe that held them was short lived as the object moved closer, dropping rapidly down towards the street. People got out of their cars and pushed and shoved themselves into buildings, fearing it was an airplane crash or something that, when it hit would surely engulf them in a fireball.
The object was now visible, and fear was replaced by confusion. The object appeared to be a small, maybe the size of a car...no, smaller still. But that sound, that scream...it echoed as it neared.
Then it hit.
People shielded their eyes as bits of the pavement flew, a crater that engulfed the entire road now visible. People slowly moved towards the hole, and were greeted to a horrific sight.
There was Kaos, bloodied and broken, trying to stand. He screamed as he pushed up with his hands, his arms shattered. He fell back into the hole, and tried to will air into his lungs. Around him, he heard cries. Some where praying, believing he was an angel descended, overs were waving for others to come and witness him. Even a small amount of gathers believed this was a trick.
But a few looked past his size and his wings to his face, though covered in bruises and glowing blood. One man slide down the 6 foot hole, and looked down at him. He took out a hankie, and wiping away some of the sticky fluid, seemed to suffer from a bit of shock. And then. Kaos heard it.
"It's Geno!"
That shut everyone up. They all looked down, staring at his fallen form, some with wonder, others pity. They all had questions, he numbly realized, questions he didn't have time to answer.
An older African American gentleman brought a glass of water from one of the café's and pouring it in his hands, poured a tiny bit into Kaos' mouth. The god tried to mutter a thank you, but could only spit up blood.
"What the hell happened to you son?"
I fell from the sky! Kaos screamed in his head. I'd like to see if you looked so go reentering the earth's atmosphere! Kaos coughed again and a young woman in a shirt that was way to short took out a wet nap from her purse and began to wipe his lips.
"Isn't that sweet?"
The crowd turned and let out a gasp. From the sky descended Destiny, a big ass smile pasted on his face. He sheathed his sword and landed, walking towards the crowd. His arms parted, and so did the crowd, as if they were suddenly the red sea and Destiny was Moses. The king of gods smiled as he jumped into the crater, taking in what was left of his son.
"Misery misery. That's the path you chose." He knelt down and pushed the gentlemen with the water away. "You could have left good enough alone, but no! You had to be the tough guy, the hero. And look at you, surrounded by this filth..." He glared at the people around the crater. You are a god, and you need them to survive a little fall?"
Destiny grabbed Kaos by the throat, and lifted him off the ground. With a toss one would use when lobbing a ball, he sent his son into the supports of a parking garage. Kaos screamed as what was left of his spine shattered, leaving him paralyzed He sunk to the ground, only to get a boot in the face for his troubles.
"You see, I don't blame you. I mean, you never were taught what you were. You are a god, and these humans are your servants. You command them, you tell them to die...or you can kill them yourself. It doesn't matter really, they will always produce more."
Kaos glared at his father. "L....liar." He managed to say. Destiny frowned and plunged his hand into his son's stomach. Blood covered his coat as he twisted his child's intestines.
"You don't get it, do you? Humans were never meant to be like this! They are our slaves....but why should I expect you to understand? Your just like them: a mistake that needs to be erased."
With that, he reached in deeper, and finding some bone that was still in tact, threw Kaos across a few blocks, and through a few buildings. He gave a look to the people watching, and then to the fire truck that drove up. He gave them a dismissive wave, like one would give a child that claimed they had seen Bigfoot or some other silly thing.
"I suggest you all go back to your homes and gather your families, because in a few minutes, I plan to wipe you all out. Just give me a few moments to kill off my son, and then we can begin the Apocalypse, alright?"
Kaos had landed finally, driven in the dirt like a stake. A long trail and exposed earth revealed how far he had skidded before stopping. He tried to move his tongue to see if he had any teeth left, but found that even that muscle refused to work. He dimly heard a fire truck and...the sound of a baby crying? For a moment, he wondered if he was in a nursery, only to realize the sound was coming from his own body. He breathed, and calmed himself.
He wasn't in a nursery, but close. He had landed in a daycare center, and luckily, had avoided the children. He couldn't see them, but he sensed that there were a group of 2 year olds watching him. He could read their minds, and nearly laughed. They thought he was Big Bird.
What I wouldn't give to be on Sesame Street right now. Kaos thought bitterly. One, Two, Three broken limbs, a ha ha.
He heard a thud, and sighed. Looks like his father was here to gloat. It wasn't enough he had failed, that all these people were going to die in 5 minutes, all because of him...no, his father had to make him suffer.
Destiny stood over him, his hand raised. Kaos' hearing had finally begun to fade, and he thought he felt blood leaking out of every opening in his body. He wanted to sleep so bad, but forced himself to stay awake. But he did hear the crackle of energy. His father was going for the killing blow.
"You are a poor excuse for a god. I am ashamed you have my face...or did. Now it looks like someone beat you with an ugly stick...wait, that was me!"
Kaos didn't try to even make a motion he heard. His powers had failed, and every wound he had suffered was now appearing. His body was ripping apart at the seams, the life of a warrior finally catching up with him.
"Don't worry, you will have a great honor! You will have the whole planet traveling with you to the afterlife." The fire ball formed in Destiny's hand. "You shall die, not by magic, but by mortal flame. A sinful death for a god of your pedigree." He raised his hand.
"Goodbye son."
