Calvary

At the foot of the cross
I want my life to lay
I want to see you Jesus
As you looked upon that day

To watch the blood pour from your side
And trickle down your face
To cast myself upon your mercy
And throw myself upon your grace

To see the crown placed by hate
Not gold upon your head
A circlet endured with love
And made with thorns instead

I want to touch the wooden beams
Held to your hands with nails
To know that though you're suffering
Life will soon prevail

I want to see your face
As you look into my eyes
To know the power of the love
That brought God's son to die

I want to wait upon that hill
Until you bid me leave
To hear many rejoicing
While few stand by and grieve

I want to wait until I hear
Your sighing final breath
To know that you have conquered
The law of sin and death

I'll wait here at the cross
Because I know you say
"Carry your cross, deny yourself
Follow me, I am the way."

Unless a seed first dies
It cannot grow as it should
So I embrace the cross of death
And run my hand along its wood

I place my life into your bloody hands
To do with as you will
And while I listen for your command
I'll wait upon this hill.
