She shuffled through the sloppy desk looking for the item that was required for her to achieve the payoff. Footsteps echoed from the stairwell, every step reaching a louder volume as the stranger neared. Finally Lieutenant Marsh found her package and quickly stuffed it in her jacket pocket just as the door opened.
"Hello sir!" She stood up perfectly straight holding her hands behind her back.
"Sorry to disturb you lieutenant but some papers, some classified papers, are missing from my office and I need someone to seek them out immediately. When you find them make sure no one ever lays their eyes on the information contained therein." Captain Rid spoke in his normal annoying tone. Lieutenant Marsh wished she could kill him where he stood.
"Yes sir, I'll get to it now. What should I do if someone has seen the paper's secrets?"
"Do whatever is required to assure the information is never released. Understood?"
"Yes sir." Her nerves began to get on edge and all she wanted was for him to leave.
"Good day Lieutenant." As the door closed behind the captain, Marsh released a sigh of relief. When his footsteps disappeared and Lieutenant Marsh was no longer afraid of being discovered she removed the package from her pocket. The next couple hours entailed many incriminating changes to these classified papers.

The shadows shifted and he began to follow Lieutenant Marsh as she left the watchtower. Guards along the streets saluted Marsh and fell to the iron club of the thief. After a semi-long ally Lieutenant Marsh removed a package from her coat and placed it under a street lamp when she thought no one was looking. As Marsh turned a corner and disappeared the thief snatched the package for his self and replaced it with an identical set of papers.

Lieutenant Marsh woke the next morning to loud thuds on her door and the shouts of her superior, Captain Rid. She scrambled to put her clothing on and when she began climbing out the window to escape what she knew was her demise her hand caught ice crusted on the sill. A loud smack echoed throughout the desolate early-morning streets and Lieutenant Marsh's door flew open. Captain Rid walked to the open window holding the promotion papers for Marsh and grimaced at the bloody sight of his saboteur lying in a steaming pool of her own blood.
