Selected Poems by Tyalie

For disclaimer, see chapter I. This poem was just written a few minutes ago. The setting is Gondor, when the fires of Mount Doom awoke for the second time.

There are men upon the battlements:
With sights on danger looming,
That wonder whither their hope has went,
The heart of Mordor's fuming.

All along the watchtower:
Soldiers stand in straight lines,
Hearts shy and spirits cower,
Fear takes the strongest minds.

People pause in the streets:
To raise startled eyes,
West to the sudden heat,
And chorus their cries.

Pay close attention to the syllables in each stanza. There was also a fourth stanza 'Smoke blackens the sky/A smothering haze/A smoldering gaze/Is Sauron's eye' but it didn't quite fit the rhyme or rhythm. Thought you might like it, though.
