This poem could be about any of the soldiers who fought to defend Middle Earth.

"Lament for the Lost Soldier"

When thou rode upon the silver hills

Bask'd in the heavens' glow

I bid them to defend thee with their

Star-tipp'd silver bow

---

My ears did strain to hear the notes

Scatter'd from afar;

The high and mournful melody

Of Battle's calling bard.

---

Heaven did my bidding and

Brought thee to my door

But thy ears still tuned to a distant strain

Of the calling of the moor.

---

Whence went the songs of Glory

From the golden days of old?

Did they shatter on the craggy peaks

Of looming doom foretold?

---

Whither did thou go to on that

High and blust'ry day?

Did the winds pick up and carry thence

My love for thee away?
