No time to talk! On with the story!
Disclaimer: Do you really think I own Inuyasha? Well, I don't.
Cold.
I felt the icy touch of the snowflakes on my face as I trudged through the white desert of winter. The wind blew against my small figure, lifting my fluffy tail to billow about me and causing my reddish hair to ruffle with it. The weather was not the friendliest, but I didn't feel the sting of the frost at all, not when I was with her.
I looked up at the slender figure walking silently beside me. I stared fondly at the pale face framed with dark hair. Apparently, feeling my stare, the object of my attention turned her head towards me, bringing sparkling eyes to meet my own. The corners of her lips turned upwards as she graced me with one of her radiant smiles. Reaching out, she picked me up from the cold ground and held me gently against her chest.
"Are you cold Shippo?" she asked, her voice full of concern.
"Nope." I sniffed, my tone brave. "Fox demons don't get cold easily."
Her grin grew wider and her blue eyes sparkled in amusement as she ruffled my hair with her hand.
"Hey! Stop that!" I protested, swatting her hand away.
She stopped, gazing at me affectionately. "Let's hurry back to the inn."
I nodded, a large grin on my lips. I remembered the methods Miroku had used to get them a warm place to sleep that night. We had been of a nice walk earlier that evening . . . the door of the inn opened, rousing me from my thoughts. Stepping through the doorway, she smiled and leisurely walked towards her room.
"So," she breathed, stopping just inside of her room. "What do you want to do now?" Her eyes glimmered as she spoke.
"Let's talk." I replied.
"Alright. "So, what do you want to talk about?" she asked warily.
Tearing my gaze away to stare at my now clammy hands, I began. "I need to ask you something. . ."
"Well?" She prodded.
Slowly, I lifted my gaze to the girl in front of me and walked over to stand in front of her. Lowering my eyes to the floor, I cleared my throat.
"K-Kagome, you're my best friend. . . and you I trust most above everyone else."
I fidgeted with my tail as I continued to stare at the floor. Licking my dry lips, I continued.
"Kagome, I like you. . . and I c-care about you." I looked up at her and felt my heart leap at the tenderness I saw in her eyes.
"I care about you," I repeated. "A lot." I felt myself shiver as she took my small hands in her soft, slender ones and peered into my eyes. Smiling gently, she spoke. "Shippo, just ask me," she urged.
I nodded.
"K-Kagome," I stuttered.
"Yes?"
I gulped. "W-will you--?"
"Hm?" she prompted, tilting her head to the side.
"I mean, c-can we. . .?" I stammered.
"Go on, Shippo," she instructed, her voice gentle.
Holding her gaze steady, my heart thumping loudly in my chest, I peered into her shining chocolate eyes and took a deep breath; it was now or never. Now was the moment to tell her what she really meant to me. It was time she knew how much I cared about her, how much I respected her, honored her. How much I looked up to her, adored her. I needed to tell her about her place in my heart, a place no one had ever filled before. I needed to tell her she was my friend, but also so much more.
"Kagome...can I call you Mommy?"
She stared at me. Then, to my surprise, she burst out laughing. "Of course you can! Jeez, I thought you were going to ask me to bear your children or something!"
It was my turn to stare. "I'm not Miroku, Kagome!"
She stopped laughing and looked at me, still giggling occasionally. "I know, Shippo, sorry!"
I sighed. Maybe it was time for bed. I walked over to my blanket and curled up. I heard Kagome prepare for bed, too.
"Goodnight, Shippo."
I hesitated, then replied, "Night, Mommy."
Well, what do you think? Should I continue it? Review!
