Disclaimer: Damn lawyers, why are they glaring at me? Of yes, because I pulled a pirate and 'borrowed' with everything intention of returning a couple of characters from "Pirates of the Caribbean". It's not my fault if they were a bit damaged when finally returned…

"As for you, Captain Sparrow, you will go and give the barring to the helmsman and then spend the rest of the voyage contemplating all possible meanings of silent as the grave. Do I make myself clear?"

I Understand, You Know

As soon as he had said those words, as soon as he had let them slip through the confinements of his mouth, he had wished he could grab them back and stuff them away so no one, least of all Jack Sparrow, had ever heard them. A grin spread across Sparrow's face. Well, everything thought Sparrow was mad. The conclusion they drew was Sparrow was to be hanged. You couldn't blame them; it was the blatantly obvious surface matter…he could only thank God no one dug deeper.

Sparrow did. But then the comment was directed at him. Damn, all this stress was getting to him; this was not a normal part of the job. He was not supposed to chase after pirates simply because one stupid blacksmith did not have enough brains to stay in Port Royal like he was supposed to, like he had been told to. But at the same time Turner could not be faulted for following his heart. Elizabeth was a fine woman, that's why he was now engaged to her. Not that he had any intention of actually going through with marrying her. He would not marry someone, spend the rest of his life with someone that would always long for another.

As would he, which brought him back to the problem at hand. Sparrow's grin was beginning to drive him insane. What infuriated him even more was that terrible glint in Sparrow's eyes, like he knew everything, everything he was thinking. He found himself overcome with a sudden urge to knock Sparrow overboard, just to see what would happen. No one would blame him, Sparrow was to be hung anyway. Pirate. And sure, the coordinates would be lost, as would Turner, but it was the boy's fault, not his problem. And if Sparrow was gone, his whole reason for chasing after Turner was gone so that was two birds with one stone.

But no matter how tempting it was, he wouldn't. He couldn't. He couldn't even let Turner die simply because he looked so much like Bill, like his father. There was another man he would never forget as long as he lived. Not that he wanted to anyway…

He almost laughed out loud at the thought of everyone's faces if they knew what he was thinking. He didn't, however, obviously. No need to be shipped off to the madhouse with Sparrow. Speaking of whom, his lips had opened and sound was coming out, a word that almost made him want to hang like he was a bloody pirate himself.

"Inescapably." Ah yes, Sparrow always understood him. Or rather Jack understood and Sparrow was there to torment the hell of out him. But no matter. Later he would get to see both and so much more when those dreadful, awful words would be tested. Ah yes…no matter how different they were, not matter how their words, their secret words, sounded to everyone else, they made a find pair, Jack Sparrow and James Norrington.

This, this is my first POTC fic, so please be nice. Or on second thought, flame. I don't really care. I just wrote this for fun. James is such a fun character to mess around with. Hehe. Anyway, if anyone is interested I've got another two chapters written, and I've got a bit of a story planned out, so if there's anyone out there who likes it, please review an tell me. If not, this will be considered a one shot, savvy? Remo
