This is yet another no powers fic, don't get mad at me, I just get an idea and type it up, if you want to blame something, blame my overactive imagination. I don't own anything so don't sue me. If you're wondering, Scott is blind. This is probably going to be a one chapter fic, so enjoy.
14 year old, Scott Summers shook his best friends shoulder to wake her up, "Jean, I can't sleep." He whispered.
Jean sat up and shook out her fiery red mane of hair. She yawned, and said, "That's the third time this week; maybe you should go talk to the professor about your nightmares."
"No, it's not that important, I don't want to burden him any more than I already do." Scott told her.
"Fine, whatever. I probably won't be able to get back to sleep either, because of a certain someone, so you want some milk or something?"
Scott was not able to hold back a grin, his best friend knew him way too well.
"Sure, since your up now, that sounds great."
"You are something Scottie, you know that?" Jean said in mock-aspiration.
Jean held out her arm for the small boy to grab hold of so she could guide him.
Once they reached the kitchen Scott took a seat while Jean grabbed two glasses out to the cupboard, and pored milk into them.
"Want anything else with the milk?" Jean asked.
"Is there any more cookies left, or did someone eat them already?" Scott questioned the red head.
"I think there are a few that weren't devoured by the locusts yet." Jean said with a small laugh.
The two of them chewed on their cookies in content silence for a few minutes.
"So, how's your summer been?" Scott asked his best friend.
"You should know, I spent most of it with you." Jean replied. "Like at soccer camp, it was fun, but I still enjoy time with you better than that kind of stuff."
"Oh, why's that?"
"Well, if you want all the details, this could take awhile...." Jean let him conclude the end of her sentence for her.
"More cookies." He said with one of his lopsided smiles.
"More cookies" She agreed with him.
After they got more of the cookies, Jean began explaining what she meant to him.
"Its like, I can be my normal self around you; I don't have to act like a totally different person, just so I can fit in. Also, you don't judge me for the way I look, because you can't. But still even if you could, I bet you wouldn't.
Scott listened to Jeans words, paying great attention to every little detail; he didn't interrupt her or anything, so she kept going.
"I can goof off and not receive any mean or weird looks or words from you, I really like that. You are a great listener and don't interrupt me every five seconds like other people do. That is another thing. Time spent with you just feels so right. And you being my best friend is great, you are loyal and actually care about me as a person, you look out for me. You are like family to me, you mean a lot to me Scott, did you ever know that?" Jean stopped her speech after that, she was a bit embarrassed about going off on one of her little rants like that.
"It's ok to tell me those things Jean, actually I love to hear them, they make me feel good, so good in fact that I think I can go back to sleep finally."
Jean put their glasses in the sink and the two of them went back upstairs.
Just before Jean shut her door Scott said, "Jean, your like a sister to me as well, thank you for being there for me whenever I needed you, you're the best."
Jean shut her door with a smile on her face, for once in a long while she felt content with herself.
Scott went back to his room, and finally was able to fall asleep into a peaceful slumber, it was as if Jean had comforted all his fears, he felt needed for once in his life.
