There was a knock at the door.....
"Come in," called a soft voice. The door opened slowly. "Oh it's you Severus. I should have known....it's almost time.....they seem to come so quickly these days," the soft voice sighed. "Yes. Well you should drink that quickly Lupin," drawled Severus, "I hate it when my potions go to waste."
"You say that every time Severus," stated Lupin planly, yet with a hint of amusement behind his tired eyes, "and have I ever failed to do what you ask? I'll grant it Wolfsbane isn't the best tasting substance, but it's better than the alternative" Here the young sandy haired professor gave a slight shudder.
"I wouldn't know," Severus quipped as he turned to leave.
"Thanks for your trouble Severus....I know how you must hate to make it. Specially for me. I just wish they could find a way to make it taste better as it is the only nurishment I seem to take in before the full moon."
"Why don't you eat?" Asked Severus. The question rather suprised Lupin....it was not like Severus Snape to voice any type of concern. Lupin thought for a moment before answering.
"I guess it's something you can't know, even if you were to memorize all the books there are on warewolves. No...only experience can teach you these things. It's hard to explain. I don't fully understand it myself," Lupin paused to take a swig of the potion before him, "As you know, the transformation starts about a week before the full moon. During that time it's almost as if the body starts to crave blood....much like a normal wolf. However part of me is still human.....and that part destests the very idea. I get so hungry but there is nothing I can eat. Nothing tastes good." Severus had, by this time, taken a seat across from Lupin. His normally pale visage seemed to be even paler.
"I suppose it is a more complicated, and painful matter than the books portay."
Wow that's really something comming from him, Lupin thought. He looked at the man before him for a minuit before answering.
"You have no idea. It is encredibly painful. And it's something that not even wolfsbane can help. Every bone in your body breaks and reforms in an instant....over and over. Yah I'd say it's painful. Even after thirty something years I still haven't gotten used to it. I know it's childish...but i still get scared. I would not wish this on anyone. Not even my worst enemy."
"Not even me?" Snape asked.
"Of coures not," Lupin said, rather taken aback, "I have never hated you Severus. I tend to put things of my fickle youth behind me. You should try it sometime. Besides you make my potion, and for that I am eternally in your debt."
Severus got up and began to walk twards the door.
"You better finish that potion Lupin."
"I know, I know. Before it gets cold and becomes useless," Lupin almost laughed.
Severus opened the door and was almost out when he stopped.
"Oh and Lupin....Thanks." And with that Severus left.
