Fear me- haha... Well, I'm back (sorry to disappoint you all) but the story must go on! Thank you to all of my reviewers – you have earned yourselves virtual cookies with lots of chocolate. Here gives out cookies. Enjoy. I also want to apologize for not updating since... um... well, you know when. I've been on vacation and enjoying myself immensely. I hope all of your summers have been going just as well. Then school started, I've gotten sick, and have an overload of homework form my AP courses and swim practice...Now, enough of my banter- on with the show!
Disclaimer- I don't own. That reeks I know...
Dane, do you know where the heck you are going?
Yes.
Are you sure?
I knew it. We're lost.
Silence you! Take a left at the end of this hall. Link sighed. He could have sworn they were going in circles and for Din only knew how long. Then again, even if he asked her, she probably wouldn't tell him. She had a tendency to be mean like that...
Someone isn't paying attention... the blonde could just feel the voice in his head smirk. He looked down and quickly stepped back. He had almost stepped right off the side of the building. Appearently the corridor was an air duct of some sort, opening up rather abruptly. Crawling on his stomach, he peered over the edge. There was nothing to grab a hold of so he could climb down and no way for him to climb up to the top. Leaning back he sighed and closed his eyes, letting one of his legs dangle over the edge. What to do now...
It seemed the voice had lost interest in their current predicament and was rambling about something. Link tried to block him out, but that seemed to get harder as time passed. He was very hungry, having not eaten in probably a matter of days. He took a deep breath. The air smelled nicer out here than it did inside, but the atmosphere still felt empty. It was as if it were completely void of the energy that coursed through the air in his own world. Magic. Perhaps that. Very few people in Hyrule even really understood it, but it was still there, as obvious as anything else. He sighed again and drifted. The world was getting darker and darker. Everything was slipping easily away when he realized what was happening.
He looked around, already knowing what the surroundings would be. A long dark hallway stretched out behind him and suddenly he was shoved aside.
Curse you Dane! Let go if it! He shouted the words but knew it was too late.
Not when I have this chance... Dane laughed madly as he took control of Link's body, it changing ever so slightly as his soul settled, taking up the new found room. Hair changed from gold to white and his eyes paled until they blanked out almost completely. He smirked.
Dane- you're going to pay for that one!
Don't I always? Now sit down little boy and let an adult handle this.
But-
I said SIT DOWN! The noise made Link fall to the ground, his hands grabbing his head as the voice echoed through and made the hallway quake. Finally he lay still, regretting ever letting his guard down. Now a spirit that wasn't his own had control of his body and there was nothing he could do about it. He scowled. May as well let the lunatic exhaust himself. He rose, turned and walked over to a door on the left-hand side of the hallway.
Dane, if you get me into trouble I'm going to-
You're going to what?
... I'll never let you take over again.
Hm, now that's a funny one...The soul of the Hero of Time stepped into his room and closed the door behind him, more irritated than he had been in years.
Dane took a minute to figure out how to move his body around, not actually being in control of one in quite some time. It wasn't long before he was back down the hall, enjoying his new freedom. Unfortunately even with his freedom, he couldn't stop muttering. That's probably what set off the alarm.
Warning! Warning! Test number 23 is on the loose! Warning! Warning! Test number 23 is on the loose!
"Curses..." The white-haired elf took off at a run along the hall, out of habit trying to stay in the shadows. He ducked into side hallways and around corners, especially when he saw- or rather felt- men in white coats come running in his direction.
"He couldn't have gone far." Two were walking down the hall, just around the corner. He took a deep breath
"Are they searching outside?"
"They've got helicopters all over the city and the boss is going to broadcast an emergency report on TV." TV? What are they talking about? What's a TV? When the Hero's soul didn't answer Dane shrugged it off and bolted down another hallway. After about five minutes he came to a flight of stairs. Not thinking twice he took them two at a time, ran down another hallway, took another flight- in much worse condition- and came out...
Well, what do you know? The roof.
The what? Link sat up in his chamber.
We made it to the roof.
Oh, goody.
You should be pleased.
Why? Because I know you want to jump off and take as many people down with you as possible?
Well, there's that.
You should visit an insane asylum. They would love you.
Are you certain we're not standing on top of one?Yes actually.
What makes you so sure? There were no other patients.
Well, maybe you're a one-of-a-kind case.
You're a fine one to talk.
Dane smirked as he looked around. It was a big roof; no wonder it had been so difficult for Link to get out. Walking over to the edge, he leaned over and eyed the street below. Carriages without horses rushed across a road in a nice orderly fashion. He glared. Too orderly for his taste. He was about to find a nice place to jump too when a voice came from somewhere behind him.
"Going somewhere?" Slowly he turned. About fifteen feet away stood a figure in a black suit- not that Dane knew what a suit was. As far as he was concerned, the bow tie around the guy's neck looked absolutely ridiculous, as did the shoes. He eyed him up and down, getting the distinct feeling that the man was doing the same.
"It would seem you've forgotten the rest of your belongings. Would you like them?" Again, Dane made no sound, but stared blankly back into the man's eyes.
Dane? What's going on? Dane?
... Be quiet. Link frowned and went to open the door to his soul room. As soon as he reached out to touch the handle it grew bright and hot.
/Ouch! Hey! Dane/ He frowned. He couldn't even hear Dane's thoughts. For whatever reason the spirit was being very secretive. Link's first guess was that something outside had disturbed him, but he wanted to know what. Irritated he sat on his bed- one that greatly resembled the bed he shared with his wife. He looked down at the headboard and touched it, wishing more than anything that he had heeded what she had told him.
Outside of their mind, the man in the black suit had taken a step forward.
"Come now. Why don't you come back inside with me and we can get your things. Perhaps we can talk more then. But you shouldn't stay out here. You don't know what these humans would do if they knew that an -elf- was among them."
"You speak as if you were any different." Dane whispered, attempting to use Link's voice box instead of his own. It worked considerably well. The man rose an eyebrow.
"I'm not. I'm like you. I come from a different world, arriving quite by accident. I was one of the lucky ones. I managed to establish a comfortable place in society where no one would get suspicious. They don't realize that people pop out of the sky every now and then- the news reporters would have a field day and the government of every major nation would declare an emergency situation." He smiled, his teeth the only defining mark on his face that was truly visible in the shadow that he stood in. He took a casual step forward and Dane took one back. This made him frown.
"I've already told you I'm your friend."
"I believe actions, not words." The man sighed.
"Very well." Turning he shouted something to the little crowd of people that had been forming just behind the door Dane had taken to get where he was. In a second a figure came out with his clothing and boots. "There. Now do you trust me?"
Dane glanced down. "No. I trust you less." The man's eyes widened. "You only brought my tunic, my shirt, my pants and my boots. You seem to be forgetting quite a number of things." The man dressed in black smiled again.
"Surely you understand the danger of carrying a weapon in a civilized place like this? We don't want any accidents to happen."
"Are you calling me uncivilized?" Mentally Dane smirked. Uncivilized? Him? Of course. But he was playing as Link and in this light no one would be able to see the difference. Link was very civilized, even when he was trying to be barbaric- which never happened, at least by Dane's definition of barbaric. Of course, Malon would probably disagree.
"No, of course not."
"And you say you want to avoid any accidents?"
"Yes, I do believe those were my words."
"Then you had better get me the rest of my things or their will be a great number of accidents, all of which may prove fatal to your person." The man was speechless. Once he registered the threat his face twisted, making obvious his rage. Turning he yelled at a number of men behind him before he looked back at Dane.
"That was your last chance elf. Perhaps you'll be more willing to talk under the influence of a truth syrum. Some torture might go along with it." Several very big men all dressed in the same attire as the first walked out from behind him. Dane backed up to the edge and looked down. It was a long drop and in this world he didn't know if his borrowed body could handle it. He glanced around before a shadow caught his eye,
He's late.
Who? He nodded slightly before dashing around the edge of the building, his body becoming a blur. The group blinked in surprise before running after him. He made it about half way around when he turned and looked at them. They were tripping over one another to get to where he stood, all too occupied to notice the shadow that had sprung to Dane's side.
"Forgetting something?" It asked as it held up his clothing. He looked down at the sheikah, nodding his gratitude.
"You're late."
"Wait- Dane?" He looked surprised, hearing the voice clearly in his head as well as aloud.
"Any ideas on how to get out?"
"There's a window sill right below you. Then we'll have to go roof-hopping."
"Can you still?"
"Yes."
"Good..." Someone was almost on top of him. Dane leaned back and stepped off, his attacker just barely able to grab the edge before he went flying off the side himself. He caught the sill easily and used it to swing himself onto another rooftop.
Dane?
Yes?Are we out?
Yes.
By any chance are you doing anything suicidal?
Yes.
And you were complaining about me getting us killed?
You're mortal as far as that goes.
Your point?
If the goddesses weren't so friggin' attached to you, then you'd be dead by now.
... Shut up.
As they ran, Dane noticed that the sheikah had stopped to grabe something- or rather, someone. When he got a second glance, he realized he was carrying a young boy. Then he frowned.
Link.
What?
Take a look at this. He sent a mental image to the body's owner.
...What about him?
Do you get the feeling that he isn't-... Oh, yeah. I see.
You agree?Yup.
Why would anyone hide like that...
You remember my sister right?
You won't let me forget her.
Maybe this child also has something to hide. Or someone.
Link leaned back on his bed and closed his eyes. What the heck- why not let the crazy, muttering, homicidal-suicidal shadow take the punches? If they died it would his fault, not Link's. Oh well, at least the spirit had some uses. With this thought in mind, he fell asleep.
