Author's Note: I've seen the movie Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow twice and I loved it! I was looking through a National Geographic (it was ancient, by the way) and saw a Kodak ad with a sweet picture. There was a really buff guy holding this tiny baby. It inspired this story. I still don't own any of the characters or anything. Hope you enjoy the fluff!
A baby's cry sounded throughout the flat. Joe groaned and turned on his side to face his wife. She looked at him through bleary eyes.
"Polly..." he began, but she cut him off.
"No, Joe. It's your turn." Joe groaned again in protest, but turned back to the other side of the bed and started to swing out. His feet touched the frigid floor and he shivered violently. He stared at his wife again.
She's so beautiful, he thought. I don't deserve such a wonderful woman. He brushed one of her golden locks away from her face. She smiled gently at him and closed her eyes. Joe smiled and kissed her tenderly. He stepped fully onto the floor and walked down the small walkway to the baby's room.
The tiny infant was crying loudly in its crib. Joe smirked and picked his child up gently. The babe instantly went silent, goggling at its father. He smiled and tossed it gently into the air. He smiled and brushed the child's dark hair away from its face. He looked at the baby's face. Polly had told him time and time again that the child looked just like his father. Joe always said that he would grow up to look just like his mother. Polly would always laugh at him and say that a son like that would definitely take after his father. Joe smiled again and kissed the baby gently.
Polly had felt the cold breeze enter the bed when her husband had climbed out. She shivered as she waited for his return. He was like a human water bottle. She pulled the covers up closer to her, trying to stay warm. She sighed and climbed out of bed. She wouldn't be able to sleep unless she knew that Joe and the baby were all right. She loved Joe with all her heart, but he never knew how to take care of a baby.
She walked into the living room quietly. Her camera sat on the coffee table by the sofa, which was right next to the window. And sitting in the dawning sunshine coming through the window was Joe. His muscle filled arms looked relaxed as he held the baby gingerly, brushing the hair away from its face. Polly felt her eyes prickling, tears starting to enter her eyes.
Who would have thought that Joe Sullivan, the famous Sky Captain, would settle down with Polly Perkins, his ex-flame? Who would have thought that they would have a child soon after they were married? And, most importantly, who would have thought that he could be as gentle as he was. He always had a soft touch around Polly and the baby. He could be in a plane and be the craziest man alive, but give him a wife and a child and he was as cautious as it was possible to be.
Polly smiled as she thought of all this, considering her husband sitting in the morning light, holding their pride and joy. As he brought the baby's face down to kiss it, Polly lifted her camera up off of the table and snapped a picture. Joe turned quickly to look at her.
"What?" he asked as he saw her mischievous smile. She walked over to him and kissed him gently on the lips.
"Nothing," she said softly. He leaned his head on top of hers and stared at the baby. Polly kissed the top of its head.
"Hello, darling," she cooed. She turned back to Joe. "I love you," was the only thing she could say. He wrapped his free arm around her waist.
"I love you, too, Polly," he said.
Well, what did I tell you? It's totally fluffy and sweet. This is where you go awww. Hope you enjoyed it! Please review.
