Remus Lupin shook his head sadly as Hermione's mother ran up the stairs of
Hogwarts to
the entranceway.

As soon as he had arrived at the granger's new home she had known something was
wrong, insisting to be taken to her daughter. He tried to tell her that it was not safe for her
to see Hermione but she knew when she looked into his eyes that Hermione was gone.
Remus watched in silence as she turned to her husband and said "I'm going with Mr.
Lupin to Hogwarts, once I've talk to the headmaster I will be back dear."
The look on John Granger's face will be one that Remus will not forget; it was a look of
betrayal.
Looking at his wife with so much hurt, anger, and loss, John Granger said, "If you leave
now you cannot come back. I will not, I cannot take you back. If you have ever loved me
Elizabeth you will not walk out that door."
Tears running down her face she said, "I have to see my child, if you loved me you
would understand that I must see her."
Rage filled John eyes and he screamed, "All I have ever done was love you. I took you
back when you came home with another man's child did I not. Have I not given another
man's child everything just to keep you happy. What about me Elizabeth, what have you
ever given to me? Have you once thought about how watching her grow up wishing she
was mine and knowing she would never be has felt like. Do you understand how those
letters we got every year from that school saying she almost died made me feel? I wished,
forgive me but I wished that with each passing year she had died. So forgive me if I don't
weep for her loss. Yet I will beg on bended knee for you to not walk out that door."
Turning unable to stop the tears from falling Elizabeth sobbed, " Forgiveness is something
I have asked from you for years. Pray forgive me if I don't give it to you for wishing my
child dead. I will send someone for the remainder of my things."
Walking in mute silence next to Elizabeth Granger, Remus wonder who else lives would
be destroyed by the lost of Hermione. Reaching were Tonks stood ready with the portkey
back to Hogwarts. Remus shook his head at Tonks questioning glaze.

Hearing Tonks call his name Remus snapped back to reality. Looking at Tonks he said
"I'm sorry what did you say Tonks?"
Shaking her head she replied, "I said we had better find the headmaster before she dos."
Nodding they followed Elizabeth into the castle.
Entering the entranceway Elizabeth looked around her before heading for the hospital
wing. This seemed to be a familiar walk for her after all the incidents Hermione had
gotten into over the years with Harry and Ron. Smiling sadly at the thought of the boys
Hermione had spent her years at school with Elizabeth wonder if they knew yet.
Pushing open the door to the hospital wing door Elizabeth followed the sounds of soft
crying stopped short seeing her daughter laying on a bed covered in gryffindor color silk
robes. Walking slowly over to stand beside her she took Hermione's hand into her own
and whispered "mum's here now, I won't ever leave you again my sweet girl."
Overwhelmed in her own grief she was not aware of the silent cry had stopped as the
medawitch had left the mother and daughter alone, or hearing the soft sound of foots
steps and robes coming up behind her.
He had seen her enter the hospital wing and walk over to her daughter's bed and begin to
whisper to her child. Afraid to enter he had stood out side in the shadows since she had
arrived in Harry's arms. He had only known for a year, he had only had a chance to love
her for a year, missing out on the first sixteen years of her life his child. He has been so
cruel to her, then finding out she was his child it was as if something broke free inside of
him, he had a reason to return, to stay alive thru this war.
Reaching out to her he whispered "Beth."
She turned and buried her face into his robes and sobbed.
