To Grandpa
I remember it like it was yesterday, all the times we had together,
But now I can only remember, what we did in rainy weather,
I treasure all the memories, that you and I shared,
So now I am giving them to you, because you really cared,
I made a lot of bad decisions, some of which were dumb,
I now look back at them, wishing I had held my tongue,
Since I'm growing up, this is passing by so fast,
You need to know one thing, that I want these memories to last,
We played and laughed, we prayed and we had a lot of fun,
But what has come my way has only just begun,
The dinners you cooked, the meals you prepared,
No one tried to beat you, no one even dared,
The holidays we spent together really gave me joy,
The laughs we had really made me say, "Oh boy,"
So I'm handing you all the things, that meant a lot to me,
Because I don't need them, I have all that I need,
I will never forget, how much you loved and cared for me,
So now it's my turn, to see how much it means,
The things we built, the things we created,
Will forever rest in us, none of it I hated,
All the videos we recorded and watched,
Made me realize how much I wished I had caught,
All I want to do, is leave something that will remain,
And that's what I'm doing, for the sake of our name,
So never forget me, if it seems like I'm gone,
Because I'll always be here, sitting on your lawn,
Always remember this, "I Love You,"
I mean it, as true as my amethyst eyes,
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May the God who loves us all,
Hold you in the palm of his hand.
