Ch3: Secrets of Shadows

Beast Boy stared in disbelief. Terra was leaving. The jet the Elemental Squad came in blasted off without a sound. She was gone, and she wouldn't come back. Beast Boy lost his fight, and his best friend.

"She left," Beast Boy said flatly.

"No, she'll come back," argued Cyborg.

"No she won't. Didn't you hear what she said? She hates my guts," Beast Boy said wearily. He sighed, and stared blankly at the door.

"Anyone want breakfast?" asked Robin, trying to cheer up the atmosphere.

"I'm not hungry." Raven said flatly

"Nor am I ready to digest Beast Boys gooey eggs." Starfire agreed glumly.

"Count me out." Cyborg murmured.

"But, Beast Boy's cooking, and we...?" Robin stopped as Beast Boy stumbled aimlessly out of the room.

"No I'm not, Robin. Not anymore," he corrected, and then walked down- heartedly down the hall.

Ion watched as Terra walked silently onto the jet, and then sat on the same seat she came to the mansion the first time in. She looked upset, as if she didn't want to leave, but then...why would she leave to begin with?

"Are you alright Terra?" asked Ion, hoping that she was. If she wasn't up to coming, then she might as well quit now.

"Oh, uh, yeah," she said hastily. Then she averted her gaze from Ion, and started fumbling with her seatbelt.

"Oh, alright then." Ion knew that something was wrong, but he figured he'd better not pry. He'd only known the girl for three days! I mean, come on!

He looked away from her, and started up the jet.

The smell of burning tofu filled Starfire's nostrils. She stared at her ceiling, and thought that she was still asleep.

"Why must my new best friend leave so soon?" Starfire wondered.

She flew over to the couch in the main hall, and sat down. Staring at the Elemental Squad's mansion off in the far distance.

* * *

The flight was as silent as ever. Drake grinned as they neared the mansion. The old teammates were boring; it was time for something new. Something wonderful that would result in much more then a new team member.

The jet touched down on the roof this time, and Terra was the first to get out. She started walking towards where the stairs were when the sound of Ion's voice made her freeze.

"Do you want to play something before lunch? Maybe some roof volleyball?" he asked innocently.

"Roof...volleyball?" Terra asked herself. Tears formed in her eyes. She quickly brushed them away. "Maybe a little later...."

She opened the door to the stairs, and marched slowly down them. Terra's feet automatically marched her down the left hall, and she walked right into-

"A closet?" she asked herself, and then remembered. "I'm not in Titan Tower anymore totoe."

Her little joke lightened her spirits, but she still couldn't help but feel regret coming on. Regret for leaving Titan Tower, and for abandoning her friends. As Terra marched towards her room, she had no idea of what was happening in her pocket.

In her pocket, the one contact she had with her old friends started to spark. Inside of it, pieces were jostled loose, and fell out. The all- important core of it fried, and something sneaked out. It was black, and had a sinister grin on. It slowly snuck under a door far down the hallway. Inside, it was completely black. The thing slowly reformed into its true figure. It pulled out a com-device.

"Done, master Slade," said the figure.

"Perfect," replied Slade's cold voice.

"Beast Boy?" called Starfire just outside his room door. He had been in there for almost three hours. She was starting to get nervous. After a few minutes of silence, Starfire decided to talk again.

"Perhaps you would enjoy to play some time consuming electronic games?" she offered. Again there was only silence. She tried again.

"Would you like some Pudding of Sadness?" This time, Starfire could have sworn she heard him shudder. But besides that, silence. "Maybe you would like to sit on the large sofa with me?"

"Forget it, Star. When BB gets like this, he doesn't respond to anything,"

Starfire turned when she heard Robin's voice. "I know, but, I do not wish to loose two friends,"

"Don't worry Star, you won't." With that, Robin walked down the hall to his room.

"I hope I don't," she said once he was out of earshot. She slowly walked back to the couch, and sat down, staring out the window at the Elemental Squad manor.

Terra walked slowly into her room. She sat down on the false canyon wall, and stared into the abyss. The sun was setting in her fake scenery, and she just watched.

"Did I...make the right choice?" Terra asked herself.

BZZZZT!

Terra jumped up. That was a noise she had never heard before. Although it almost sounded like a doorbell. She walked slowly to her door, and pressed the open switch. Ion was standing on the other side.

"I brought you your new costume," he said, "I hope you like it."

Terra took the clothing out of his arms, and unraveled them. The top part was a black tang-top with a yellow 'E' stamped in the middle of it. The bottom was a pair of short jeans in a dirty white hue that would just reach the top of her ankles.

"Oh...thanks," whispered Terra.

"Want some dinner? Heron may be a hot-head, but he sure can cook!" said Ion. He must have noticed that Terra was upset, for he seemed to be trying to cheer her up.

"No thanks. I'm a little tired. I think I'll just go to bed." Ion was going to say 'good night, then,' but Terra closed the door on him before he could even get the 'good' all the way out.

Not to be rude, but I think I'm kind of tired of him. Terra thought.

She walked over to her full size mirror, and stared at the tired features of a young girl, who thought she made the wrong choice.

* * *

Ion stopped what he was saying when the door slammed in his face.

"Oh well, then. I guess I'll just get some dinner on my own," Ion marched down the hall to the dinning room. Then the screen flickered.

"Faulty wiring," Slade whispered to himself as he watched Ion disappear off camera one, and walk into the second. "Ion, there's a wall there. She doesn't open up easily. But she soon will. To me."

Slade started laughing to himself in his chair.

Enjoy your last decent meal, Elemental Squad! he thought. Soon his plan would come into play, and he would rule this pitiful world.

Terra stared at herself in the mirror. A pair of brown work gloves was included with her outfit. She slid them on, and got a good look at herself in the new cloths.

Was this really worth it? she asked herself mentally.

An electronic eagle soared in the air in front of her. It swooped down into the canyon, and came back up a good while later with a robotic mouse.

"This place has everything," she sighed to herself. She made a rock stairway that led down the canyon. The bottom was made out of Astroturf. The springy material gave a little bounce in each of her steps. "So...why do I fell like I've lost everything?" She leaned against a pillar. She sighed, and let herself slide down to a sitting position.

Terra closed her eyes, and let time pass her by.

"Starfire, coming to bed?" yawned Robin as he came out to see if Starfire was still sitting on the couch. She was, and seemed like she hadn't moved. Her eyes glowed in the dark.

"I would prefer to stay up a little longer," Starfire responded.

"Alright, Starfire. But try to get some sleep. It's not to good to stay up all night." He marched away towards his room.

"I will," Starfire said to no one, and continued to stare at the Elemental Squad mansion.

Terra got up in the middle of the night. She needed water.

As she stumbled out into the hall, Terra tried to remember where the bathroom was. Moonlight shown pail through the windows every now and then. Terra could have sworn that a couple of times the shadows moved.

Once she jumped because she thought she heard a sneeze from a shadow. She turned around and stared in the general direction of the sneeze. No one was there. Terra turned back around and walked uneasily towards the bathroom.

"AAAAAHHHHHHH!" Terra screamed as one of the shadows actually moved in front of her. Blocking her path. It took form of what looked like a human.

"Hello, Terra," said the thing.

"What...ARE you!?" she stammered.

"A friend," He pointed behind her. She looked, and screamed again at a black, detail-less T-Rex. "Or an enemy," warned the shadow in front of her.

"Let me leave!" Terra demanded.

"But my master has big plans for you. Big plans," The shadow's hands started glowing. A black orb appeared in them. "I'm afraid you will never be leaving, Terra, not for a while,"

The orb grew bigger and bigger until it hit Terra, and it was as if a wave of ice hit her. She was suddenly freezing, and her worst memories came flooding back into her head. She sobbed a little, and then passed out.

The orb didn't stop with her. It grew larger and larger. It's dark magic affected Ion, Heron, and Elani. One member was missing. The orb grew until the entire mansion was engulfed in darkness. Any thing that touched the orb was knocked unconscious, and immediately warped back to their homes. The orb sealed the mansion, and blocked Terra's escape. She was trapped, with no way home.

YEAH! End of chapter! Sorry I took a little while to update. I'll try not to do it again. Thanks! And be sure to review on your way out!
