Questions A.Preparation for Delivery

When does a pregnant woman start to seek your service? (antenatal visits or during labor)

If antenatal visits occur, what services do you usually provide? (breathing techniques, relaxation exercises)

What are the preparations done in terms of instruments and supplies used?

What are the precautions you advise to the mother just before delivery?

What are the preparations you do on the parturient? (cleaning of the vulva, use of sterile gloves)

Are there any initial examinations done before the actual delivery? What are they?

B. Management of Labor

How do you assess the status of both the mother and fetus during the course of the labor? (assessment of uterine contractions, fetal heart tones)

How do you deal with fetus in breech presentation?

Are there any complications observed after delivering babies in breech presentation? What are they?

How do you go about delivering the placenta?

What are the cares done for the lacerations?

C. Immidiate post partum care

1.) Is the mother's general condition assessed and monitored? Which parameters are being monitored?

2.) Is the mother's pulse monitored?

3.) Is the amount of bleeding observed and assessed? How is the bleeding managed?

4.) Is the uterus assessed and monitored by palpation for firmness or observation for accumulation of blood?

5.) Is the mother asked to empty her bladder? How is the bladder stimulated to void?

6.) Is the valvular region inspected for hematoma? How is hematoma managed?

7.) Are the vital signs monitored regularly?

8.) Is uterine contraction promoted? How is this done?

Care of the Newborn

What are aseptic procedures performed in preparation for giving care to the newborn?

What procedures are performed to care for the newborn's eyes?

How is the cord managed? What are the aseptic techniques applied? How is it dressed?

Is the vernix caseosa spread using O.S.?

Are the fontanelles, head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, anus and the rest of the body inspected? Is rectal temperature taken?

E. Care during puerperium
