Chapter One: The Theme Park

Chihiro and her friend, Oki, went from school to Chihiro's house on their bikes. It was a pretty blue house, on the end of the street. Chihiro liked the house, but she still missed her old house, and old friends.

"You want to go explore, or something, Chihiro?" Oki asked, she was bored and wanted to do something.

"Um... sure!" Chihiro responded. She walked out the door, following Oki. Oki jumped on her bike and went down the road.

"Come on, Chihiro!" she yelled, glancing back. "See if you can catch up!" She turned abruptly turned down the hill that was beside the road. "Whoa-a-a-a!" She laughed, going down the bumps on the hill.

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Chihiro yelled to her friend, turning down the hill. "Yikes!!! Oki, why'd you make me do thiiiiis!!!"

Oki had already made it to the bottom, mind you, it wasn't that big of a hill. "Hurry up, Chi!" she yelled up the hill. "I'm getting curious and impatient!"

"I'm c-oming!" Chihiro said, going over bump after bump. Making it to the bottom, she stopped to rest a bit. "I am never doing that again!"

"Don't be such a wimp, Chi!" Oki teased. "Come on, this path looks interesting!"

"It's uphill!" Chihiro noted, whining slightly.

"We'll walk!" Oki told her, looking over her shoulder. She hopped of her bike and started to walk.

Chihiro moaned; she regretted ever agreeing to go explore. "This is not fun!" Then she slowly got of her bike. "Wait, Oki!"

It was quite a long trail that Oki lead. Chihiro, being the nervous girl she was, glanced to the side every few seconds. She jumped at the sound of the wind blowing through the bundle of trees.

As soon as Oki saw the actions, she spoke to Chihiro. "Chi, stop shaking!" She giggled. "Nothing's going to jump out at you!" She looked over her shoulder as she spoke. Then she ran into a wall. "Ow." She said monotonously. Walking backwards, she looked up at the large, red bricked wall.

Chihiro looked curiously, too. She saw a small monkey-like statue. I somehow... remember that! She thought. That's weird! I don't think that... oh, when we first came. The amusement park! We didn't do much there... hm....

"Chihiro!!!" Oki called, waking Chihiro from her daydream. "Come on! We're exploring, remember?"

"Oh... yeah." Chihiro walked on, but she still looked at the monkey. She shook her head and looked away. Eventually, she would have walked into a wall, like Oki did!

There was a long dark hallway, and then it opened to a large, empty room. There were benches there and a small bird fountain with no water. "I think it's a theme park!" Oki said, walking up the small staircase at the other side. "Yup!" came a voice back to Chihiro.

"I know!" Chihiro called back, hurrying forward to her friend. "I – I think I've been here before!"

"Really?" Oki asked. "You could have told me! Then we wouldn't have gone all this way for nothing!"

"No!" Chihiro said defending herself. "I completely forget it all! So it wasn't pointless!"

"Really? You're not just saying that to make me feel better, were you?"

"No! I really, really don't remember this!" Chihiro told Oki honestly. "Trust me, Oki!"

"OK, I'll try to believe you, but if you show one sign of remembrance, I'm turning right back!" Oki warned her.

"OK, besides, I probably won't remember!" Chihiro told her. "At least, I don't think I'll remember."

"Well, let's get going." Oki said, motioning her head towards a small creak. "I can't wait to see what this place is like!"

"Yeah, can't wait." Chihiro mumbled. She did remember something about this place, it was dangerous in some way. She couldn't remember what, but something was.
