-Chapter One: Late Arrival-
The dogs howled along with the sirens as the sun glared down at the Earth's surface. The scent of hot humid air surrounded everything as a teenaged girl stood outside on the balcony of her family's apartment. She pulled her cell phone out of her pocket and looked at the time. The girl sighed. "Where could she be?"
Suddenly, the high pitched sound of the doorbell filled her ears. She smiled and placed her cell phone back into her pocket then walked inside the apartment closing the glass door behind her. The annoying doorbell rang again and this time the girl groaned. She walked through the apartment to the front door where the sound was coming from. She unlocked the door then opened it. Another teenaged girl stood there with a couple of bags on the ground beside her. She had long raven black hair and hazel eyes. She wore her middle school uniform. "What took you so long, Kari? Were you sleeping again?"
"Does it look like I've been sleeping, Kagome? For your information, I've been waiting here for ten minutes for your sorry ass to show up." The girl told the black haired one. They both looked at each other then began to laugh. Kagome Higurashi smiled and looked at the girl. She had midnight blue and dark purple eyes. Surprisingly, the girl had never dyed her hair before for midnight blue was her natural hair color. The girl wore loose jeans and a red tanktop. She gave Kagome a look. "So, are you waiting for an invitation or are you going to come in?"
"Hey, I'm the guest. I think you should carry my stuff in." Kagome said with a smile as she walked passed her and into the house. She turned and clapped her hands. "Chop, chop. Come on, Kari. They're not that heavy."
"Not that heavy? Well then, you won't mind when I hit you over the head with them." Kari muttered as she grabbed Kagome's suitcases and brought them inside. The two walked into a guest room and Kari threw Kagome's stuff on the bed. "Well, this shall be your room for the next two months. My room's right next door then Mom's and Dad's room is across the hall."
"This is perfect. I'm going to spend my summer vacation with my favorite cousin." Kagome told her happily. She then looked around. "Hey, where's Rena and Daisuke?"
"Oh, they're at work. Some people actually got to work during the summer. Talking about the summer....why are you wearing your middle school uniform? You know that it's summer plus you're going to be in high school once this summer is over, right?" Kari asked her cousin as the two of them left the guest bedroom and into the kitchen. Kagome gave her a look and nodded. "Anyways, what made you so late? You don't live that far away you know."
"Oh, well, uh, I was kind of held back by a friend who didn't want me to leave." Kagome told her as she thought about how she had the usual agrument with Inuyasha. Only this one was a lot worse since she told him that she would be gone for 60 days or two months. Inuyasha freaked out when he heard this. He was about to throw her over his shoulder and take her away from the well but Kagome saw it coming and said 'sit' then quickly went down the well. She could see Inuyasha now. He would probably be sulking by the well with the others surrounding him looking down into the deep darkness of the interior of the dry well.
"Hey, Kagome!!! Did you hear me?" Kari asked as she waved a hand in front of Kagome's face. They were standing in front of the refrigerator as Kari looked into it. "I said, do you want something to eat or drink?"
"Nah, no thanks."
