AUTHOR'S NOTE

Hey! I'm still here! I'm working on a Power Rangers fanfiction, but I didn't want you thinking that I had fallen off the face of the Earth abandoned Higher Ground. This is a SophieScott friendshipcounseling session fic. Takes place sometime after "Close Encounters" and before "The Kids Stay in the Picture". All characters belong to Fox Family.

Sixteen-year Scott Barringer paced in the kitchen miserably. How could this have happened? How could she have won? He told the truth! And she had been right. He hadn't believed him.

"Scott? You want to talk about it?" Sophie Becker asked.

"It's just not fair, Sophie! How could he not believe me!? Why would he think I was lying!?" Scott burst out.

"Scott, I---I don't know what to say," Sophie admitted.

"Well, at least she can't do it anymore. There is that," Scott allowed.

"Scott, Peter and I have been talking, and we've decided to call Child Protective Services," Sophie stated.

"No! No cops!" Scott cried.

"Scott, it's the law. We have to report this," Sophie responded.

"Sophie, you can't!" Scott exclaimed.

"Scott, I just told you: we have to," Sophie said.

"No," Scott said with a shake of his head.

"Why don't you want us to call them, Scott?" Sophie asked.

"Scotty, Scotty. Oh, Scotty, you feel so good," his stepmother, twenty-six-year old Elaine Barringer breathed.

"Stop it. Go away," Scott said.

"Sssssh. You don't want him to hear us, do you?" Elaine questioned.

"Elaine, stop," Scott insisted.

"Scotty, you don't want me to stop. You like it. You like the way I make you feel," Elaine oozed.

"No! You make sick, skank!" Scott exclaimed.

"SSSSSSH!" Elaine scolded.

"Scott?" Sophie's voice broke Scott's reverie.

"You just---you just don't get it, okay?" Scott responded.

"Of course I don't get it, Scott. It didn't happen to me. I can't possibly know how you feel," Sophie agreed.

"I---I can't tell CPS," Scott insisted.

"Why not?" Sophie asked.

"Because---because---" Scott hesitated.

"Scott?" Sophie prodded.

"Because it wasn't just that we had done it! Elaine would tell me that I liked it!" Scott burst out. "And---and at first---I---I did! But after I said 'no', and she didn't stop---I hated it! Sophie I always did after that!" he continued.

"Scott, it wasn't your fault," Sophie told him.

"Why didn't she stop?! I told her to stop!" Scott cried. He began to breathe heavily.

"Scott?" Sophie asked.

"Go ahead. Call them. I'll make her pay. I'll make her pay for not stopping when I said 'no'," Scott stated. Sophie reached out and squeezed Scott's shoulder in gentle sympathy, then went out to the hall phone. Scott slid to the floor and began to sob.
