Disclamer: I do not own Harry Potter! If I did why would I put my stories here? Oh yeah, I don't own the song Into the West either.
A/N: As you read this please remember I was going through a moment when I had just finished a happy ending type of story and needed something angsty. I know it sounds weird that I used a Lord of the Rings song but trust me, it ties in nicely. Enjoy!
Into The West
It was the final war between Lord Voldemort and the Order. The good side had almost won. Most of the Death Eaters had been killed or arrested. Only a few were left fighting.
Harry was fighting Voldemort, unsurprisingly. Ron was fighting Marcus Flint. Draco Malfoy, who had joined the Order as a spy was fighting his father. Hermione was fighting someone she didn't know and Ginny was fighting Belatrix Black.
Hermione was winning. She was so intent on the battle she paid little attention to everything else.
"Avada Kedavra!" Ron fell to the ground lifeless.
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head.
Night is falling.
You have come to journey's end.
Sleep now.
Dream- of the ones who came before.
They are calling
From across a distant shore.
Hermione yelled "Avada Ke-". Then hearing someone else using the spell near her she whipped around.
She saw Ron fall and ran towards him. Hermione quickly killed Ron's laughing opponent. Then she sat with Ron's head in her lap and cried.
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you see
All your fears will pass away.
Safe in my arms,
You're only sleeping
Hermione was so intent on her sorrows that she didn't notice the battle around her.
"I love you Ron. I always have. I should have told you. I was so scared you wouldn't feel the same way. Now it's too late."
What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises.
The ships have come
To carry you home.
And all will turn to silver glass.
A light on the water
All souls pass
Hermione didn't notice that Harry had killed Voldemort. Everyone was celebrating.
"I miss you already Ron. I have nothing left now."
Ron's eyes fluttered open. "Yes you do."
"Ron. Oh Ron I thought you were dead! I love you."
"I love you too Hermione but I'm going to be gone soon. I was granted a few more minutes to tell you this: Don't go into depression because of me. You still have Harry. You're young Hermione. You still have time for love. Don't let me get in the way of you having a love life. I want you to love someone and have children. I know you always wanted children. I have to go now Hermione. I love you..." He trailed off and his eyes closed.
Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time.
Don't say
We have come now to the end.
White shores are calling.
You and I will meet again.
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping.
Hermione started to cry. "I will Ron. I promise I will."
Harry came up to her and hugged her. "I miss him too Hermione. I know you loved him but just try to get through this."
"I will Harry. Don't worry about me." She allowed him to lead her away.
What can you see
On the Horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises.
The ships have come
To carry you home.
And all will turn to silver glass.
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the west.
5 years later:
Hermione looked down at her two newborn twins, Cristina Lily and Ronald James.
"They look like you," her husband said.
"But both of them have your eyes," she replied.
He smiled at her, then leaned down and kissed her. "I love you Hermione."
She smiled back. "I love you Harry Potter."
