DISCLAIMER: The play 'Romeo and Juliet' will forever belong to William Shakespeare. I only hope he will forgive me for what I have done with his great work.

Romeo and Juliet

The Capulets and Montagues had a fight

Though they clearly had no right

Many people died that day

The Prince would surely make them pay

He declared with all his might

That if their feud caused another fight

In Verona streets on any day

Their lives are what they'd have to pay

See, the families had an ancient war

So old they'd forgotten what the fighting was for

Each family had an only child

Neither was really all that wild

The Montague's had Romeo

16, and gets along with Benvolio

The Capulet's had Juliet

14, wanted as a wife to Paris, whom she'd never met

Romeo and Juliet met

At the Ball of Lord Capulet

Their love awoken

Not a word to be spoken

Lord Montague and kin

Weren't supposed to be let in

Romeo was seen

Capulet didn't want to make a scene

At the end of the ball they learned

What should really and truly be mourned

That each was the other's enemy

They really should be in a state of enmity

Because of the two families feud

Their love could never be viewed

They had to meet in secret,

But their love they could not forget

Romeo had to sneak

So that they could speak

From Juliet's balcony

Which set the course of destiny

The Friar agreed to marry,

As long as they did not tarry

He wanted to end the families' feud

Though his means were rather rude

Now Tybalt was still rather mad

A worse notion he never had

Wanting to fight a duel with Romeo

He ends up killing Mercutio

Mercutio fights in Romeo's place

Romeo tried to stop it with all due haste,

Tybalt sweeps in with an underhand stab

Mercutio can no longer speak of Queen Mab

Tybalt gets scared and runs away

Which signals the end of this fray

Romeo quickly goes chasing after

Tybalt cannot run the faster

Romeo catches Tybalt quite soon

It is not yet far past noon

Romeo's heart is full of gloom

This is the day of Tybalt's doom

Benvolio told the Prince the course of events

For his offense the Prince did immediately exile him hence

The sentence was really rather quite kind

Death being the one everyone else had in mind

Romeo hides in Friar Lawrence's cell

He really doesn't look nearly well

Meanwhile Juliet weeps for Romeo banished

As if he had just simply vanished

Juliet's parents

Were going to force her to marry Paris

Mantua was where Romeo was forced to go

Unaware of Juliet's woe

The Friar had a notion

Juliet to take a sleeping potion

Romeo was sent a note

But somehow it missed the boat

To fake her death was the key

So happy she could be,

After they placed her in the tomb

There did difficulties loom

Romeo finally arrives

Thinking that Juliet really dies,

Romeo is in despair

Buys a poison drug to join her there

Paris thinks Romeo's means are untrue

Romeo gives him his course due

Bringing the blade fast and true

Romeo bids his love adieu

Romeo's drug brings death fast

When Juliet awakes she is aghast

She takes his dagger to her breast

And plunges it into her chest

The Friar confesses all to the Prince

Expecting his death will commence

The Royal Pardon the Prince he does give

And the family's feud, it ceases to live

Statues of gold they said they would raise

In honor of all the happier days

In memory of the children they loved

That their fighting meant the death of

So I tell you this tale of gloom

Of two young lovers lost much too soon

It is a classic tale of woe
