Title: Henry's Pocket Watch Obsession

Disclaimer: I don't own LXG, or any literary characters. Wish I could own Jason though.

Author's Note: Again, I am just writing this until the muses are kind enough to let me continue Black Summons. Ever wonder why Henry is always playing around with his pocket watch whenever he is a nervous wreck? In this little story, our favourite American spy wonders the same thing. Let's just say that Tom will be in for a surprise when he asks Henry.

In the corridors of the mighty Nautilus, Tom Sawyer was taking a walk. He had his hands in the pockets of his trousers and he whistled a small tune to himself. Since the ship was underwater, Tom felt like taking some time to walk around the vast halls and peer out the port holes every few moments to check if the ship surfaced.

As Tom turned one corner, he saw Henry Jekyll pacing like a caged animal at the end of the hall. Henry was murmuring to himself, his copper-colour hair limp, his grey-blue eyes focused on the silver pocket watch in his hands. Tom cocked one eye brow; he had always been puzzled to why Jekyll would fiddle around with that watch, not to mention why Jekyll would be talking to himself.

"Hey Jekyll," said Tom, trying to catch Henry's attention.

Henry quickly stopped pacing and glanced at Tom with widening eyes. "T-Tom, what brings you here?" His hands were trembling, tapping the lid of his watch open and shut, producing little clicks.

"I was just walking down the hall until I saw you pacing around. Is there something bothering you?"

"N-nothing, I'm fine." The grey in Henry's eyes darkened as a sign of hostility. He continued to tapping the lid of his watch open and shut, only faster.

"How come you fidget with that watch of yours? Aren't you worried that it will break?"

"What I do with my watch is none of your business!" Henry snapped.

"Whoa," said Tom, holding up his hands, "don't get angry, I was just concerned. How long have you owned the watch?" The American noticed that Henry's pocket watch was a little aged compared to the shiny new ones in the shops.

"I got it on my eighteenth birthday long ago," replied Henry, his voice taking on a sound similar to Hyde's. "So it's mine, my own... my preciouss!"

Tom's hazel eyes widened and his jaw dropped. He had just realized that Henry was obsessed with that pocket watch.

"I never knew it was so important to you," said Tom after the little shock at Henry's behaviour.

"It is, and it's preciouss! Don't touch the preciouss, it's mine and I don't want it taken from me." Henry placed his watch in his vest pocket and he ran down to his cabin as fast as his long legs could carry him.

Tom cocked his head, when it comes to the pocket watch, Henry was one strange man. Guess it was a new, strange thing learned about the shy doctor. Whistling again, Tom continued his little walk in the corridors.

End Note: Yess, we made Henry act like poor, poor Sméagol. Why is it that all the literary freaks have to be so cute? Of course I think a bald, shrivelled up hobbit is cute, but that's not the point of my story. There had to be some reason why Henry plays around with that watch, and the best reason would be like Sméagol's reason for petting that freaking Ring! If you have seen both Lord of the Rings and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, you might have noticed the similarities between Henry and Sméagol. As for Henry getting the watch on the day he turned eighteen, just thought that could be a possibility how he got it.
