"I've never sprung a man from jail."
"Me neither."
Today's question: Where do your loyalties lie? Your two choices are as follows: A.) With your friends, or B.) With your self.
So what were Bumlets and Snoddy loyal to? We'll just have to wait and see. The two boys stood, in broad daylight, in front of the House of Refuge for Troubled Boys. Pie Eater sat lonely inside.
He was somewhat like Jean Valjean—imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread. Pie Eater, however, was not starving.
"We kinda owe it to him, you know," Snoddy said to Bumlets. "I mean, we did bet him he wouldn't do it."
Bumlets nodded. "It's our fault," he agreed. The two boys didn't move a muscle.
"But..." Snoddy turned to Bumlets. "He didn't really have to do it, right?"
"Right." Another nod from Bumlets.
"But he's our friend."
"Definitely."
Snoddy paused. "Then again...we could get in trouble."
"Big trouble," Bumlets agreed with yet another nod.
"And we'll see him in a few weeks, right?"
"Yep."
Then they were decided. "Wanna grab a bite?"
"Definitely!"
So much for loyalties.
