All those years ago
Chapter 1: How it all began
I used to believe in fairy tales, that everything ended with happily ever after. I defiantly did not have a happy beginning until I met Tom and found happiness. I thought it was my happy ending and it was until it all happened. I had already been through enough with my mum and just plain sadness of what the war did to me. My happy ending was real but now it seems so far away, I feel ashamed and ungrateful but the happy child that I had fought to become is dying ever since that day.
That day was a special and it changed my life. I was 15 years old at the time when it all changed. This was near the end of the war. Tom hasn't died to be honest it is nothing about Tom who I really feel is my father. I will tell you everything plainly but fist I will tell of the meeting of the most amazing person I will ever know.
I was cycling to the post office where I saw her. Her copper coloured hair cut short blew it the breeze outside the shop. Her emerald green eyes had a certain twinkle and her smooth unwrinkled face had an expression of trust. She was median height and was quite thin. She wore a smart blue dress with a light brown over coat. She was looking at the window of the post office when she suddenly turned. Her bright eyes gazed into mine for a moment and then a smile appeared on her face. "Hello" she said. I said hello back and introduced myself. I asked her name and she replied Penny. "I came here because my parents died and I am going to live with my aunt, who I have never met in my life." She said. "She lives on Church Street. Do you know where that I?" she said. I said yes and we headed off down the lane.
She explained to me of how her parents had died in an air raid and of her aunt who she had never seen. She seemed nervous and longing to please her aunt who I had never met. Her aunt was Miss. Harper she was middle aged and was rarely seen about since she was crippled apart from this was all I knew of her and I told this to Penny.
When we arrived I escorted her to the door and waited until she was admitted. She thanked me and disappeared inside. I guess I knew from that moment that I loved her.
