This songfic is based on Ethel M. Grimes' story "In Memory of Elizabeth," which is on the Animated Lust website. I strongly urge anyone who has not already done so to read it; it's an excellent story. In this song, Elizabeth Starling and Basil are saying farewell to each other. The song I am basing this off of is "A Little Fall of Rain," from the Les Misérables soundtrack.
The boldfaced phrases are phrases which Basil and Elizabeth sing in unison. Some of the rhyming is a little off and the rhythm isn't always there, but I was trying to add some of what Elizabeth and Basil said to each other in this part of the story. And I kept some of the phrases of the original song because I thought they related perfectly to this scene in the story.
Basil is the property of Eve Titus and Disney. Elizabeth is the property of Ethel M. Grimes, and is used with her permission.
ELIZABETH
Don't you fret, my dear detective
I don't feel any pain
Even Ratigan
Can hardly hurt us now
You're here, that's all I need to know
And you are my strength
And you are my hope
And I am yours forevermore.
BASIL
But you will be my bride, my own love,
If only I could heal your wound with my love.
ELIZABETH
Just hold me now, and let it be.
Shelter me, comfort me
BASIL
You would live a hundred years
If I could show you how
I won't desert you now...
ELIZABETH
He can't hurt us now
I will be always yours, never forget
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
I'll sleep in your embrace at last.
The one I hold so dear
Is by my side!
What more could I fear
If I weren't to die
And leave him here, so alone?
But with him I am finally home
So don't you fret, my detective
I don't feel any pain
Even Ratigan
Can hardly hurt us now
BASIL
Don't speak, dear Elizabeth,
You won't feel any pain
Even Ratigan
Can hardly hurt you now
I'm here
ELIZABETH
That's all I need to know
And I will keep you safe
I'll be with you, always close
BASIL
I won't forget your lovely face
Or your sweet embrace
ELIZABETH/BASIL
And someday... We'll be together...
BASIL
At last...
