Neon Genesis Evangelion 'Two Caresses'
Shinji heads to medical room 303 at the request of Doctor Akagi in regards to Asuka's confrontation with the last angel. Shinji sees Ritsuko outside of Asuka's room talking to some of the hospital's staff.
"Doctor Akagi! How is Asuka doing?!" Asked Shinji.
"Oh hello, Shinji." Replied Ritsuko.
The two turned towards the window outside of Asuka's hospital room.
"Shinji, Asuka's depression has really gone off the deep end and it seems Arael really overburdened her psyche." Ritsuko explained.
Shinji is frightened by Ritsuko's words
"Wha… What do you mean?" Questioned Shinji.
Ritsuko sighed, "Well it means we were a little late in regards to saving her."
"Oh..." Said Shinji as he looked down in disappointment.
"So as a last ditch effort I invited you here today to try and speak a few words to her, just to see if that will make a difference. After all you two are roommates." Said Ritsuko.
"Doctor Akagi, before the last angel attacked, Asuka and I had been fighting a lot." Shinji replied.
"That doesn't matter now, Shinji. Simply go into the room and attempt a conversation with her. She needs you now more than ever." Ritsuko said.
Shinji nods his head in agreement and enters 303 room.
The door closes behind him.
Shinji walks towards the bed where a fractured young woman lays, staring at the ceiling with a blank expression on her face. The boy takes a seat next to her bed and begins to gather his thoughts on what he's going to say to the person who he admires yet fails to understand.
"Asuka… I hate seeing you like this."
She doesn't respond.
"If this is partly due to any fault of my own, well I'm sorry…."
No response.
"Heh C'mon Asuka... I want to help you, but I can't help you if you don't say anything."
Still no response and Shinji becomes more frustrated.
"The woman I want to protect isn't this emotionless doll!" Yelled Shinji.
Asuka's eyes squint slightly, she then moves the bed sheet off of her and sits towards the edge of the bed right in front of where Shinji is seated.
"As… Asuka, I didn't mean that..." Said a slightly startled Shinji.
Asuka, while looking downward, places her right hand on Shinji's cheek, while surprised by this he cautiously accepts her gesture with a slight smile on his face.
"Idiot..." Asuka mumbled under her breath.
Asuka then looks up at him with an ireful expression on her face and claws his cheek with force.
"Ahhh!" Shinji yelped while looking back at her with shock and confusion. Asuka then pounces on top of Shinji, the two fall to the ground where she then begins to violently batter him.
"Oh no! I'll sedate her!" Exclaimed one of the nurses.
"No wait!" Responded Ritsuko.
"But, Doctor! She's attacking him!" Replied the nurse.
"We need to see how Shinji will respond first." Ristuko declared.
Asuka continues to repeatedly strike Shinji.
"Asuka! Stop it!" Shinji said while trying to protect himself from Asuka's hits.
"Little Scheisse! You just don't get it!" Asuka shouted.
"Kannst du nicht sehen, dass ich dich brauche?!" Asuka yelled in German.
[Can't you see that I need you?!]
"Ugahh! What?!" Shinji shouted in confusion.
"How could you even say that?! I'm not a doll!" Asuka proclaimed.
"Und diese erste Kinderschlampe Rei! Immer für sie und nie für mich!" Yelled Asuka.
[And that first child bitch Rei! Always for her and never for me!]
"Ich brauche dich! Ich brauche dich!" Asuka admissioned to Shinji while on the verge of tears.
[I need you! I need you!]
"Asuka, I don't know what you're saying!" Shinji pleaded.
Full of contempt and rage for Shinji, she grabs him by the neck and begins to strangle him. Shinji begins to gasp for air.
"Asu…ka! Stop, I can't… Breathe!" Shinji cried.
"STILL IGNORING ME?!" Asuka lashed out.
"Ig...noring, you...? Ugh!" Shinji replied.
While the struggle continues her remark sinks into Shinji's thoughts and he thinks about the times the two would come close to one another and how Asuka made advances towards him, but only to be completely oblivious to them.
"AHHHHHH!" Asuka screamed while applying more and more pressure around Shinji's neck.
He now realizes her true feelings towards him. To convey this to her he raises his right hand, reaches towards her face and places his hand on her cheek.
"Huh...?" Asuka said.
Asuka with a surprised and confused expression on her face gradually releases pressure from Shinji's neck. She smacks his arm off and brings her face down onto his chest, embraces him and begins to weep.
"Asuka...I know what it's like to hurt, I need you too." Shinji said to her while breathing heavily.
Shinji waves in the hospital staff, they flood the room and take Asuka off of him. She doesn't try to put up a fight.
"Place her on the bed and sedate her!" One of the Doctors ordered.
She looks up at the ceiling with a slight expression of relief on her face as they inject her with the sedative.
"Are you okay? You're bleeding." Asked one of the nurses
"Yeah I'm okay…" Shinji lied.
"She really did a number on you and I don't know what you said to her, but it looks like she still has a soul in there." Ritsuko examined
"Why don't you go back to Misato's and get some rest after they patch you up." Ritsuko said.
"Yes ma'am, but what about Asuka?" Asked Shinji.
"We'll continue to evaluate, but I believe she'll be fine now." Ritsuko determined.
Shinji walks out the room and leans back on the door and breathes a sigh of relief.
