I crashed face first and into the ground. My whole body ached; I could feel my life slipping through my fingers.

I couldn't move. Everything hurt. Slit into my side was a gaping hole, one that was beyond repair, indicating that this would be my last battle. My ring had been destroyed, and I was a mere mortal who waited for his grievous fate.

Then I heard her scream.

She would never scream unless the pain had been unbearable, by her standards. A loud "clang" sounded on the far wall, and I knew her prized weapon and been ripped from her palm and thrown aside. She cried out once more, and I had to close my eyes. I couldn't help it.

When I opened them again, I coughed. Blood slipped from my mouth. I couldn't see through my right eye, for it's vision had been clouded with red.

Carefully, I laid my ripped cheek on the dirt, allowing my left eye to see. Just then, she landed beside me.

Her whole body was shaking because she had landed on her wing in an abnormal position. I knew that our enemy had broken many of the hollow bones in her body, but I couldn't imagine how it would feel to have a useless wing.

She turned her head to look at me with tears flooding her green eyes. I reached out to her, taking her weak hand into mine.

For a brief second, she smiled.

With everything that had happened between us, with all the time we had spent apart, we knew how the other felt. We didn't need to say anything, but we spoke anyway.

"I'm sorry," she muttered; sobs evident in her every word. "I'm so sorry."

"Me too," I forced. After I tightened my grip on her pale hand, she did the same in return. That made me smile.

I swallowed the blood coming up my throat, as my vision seemed to grow darker with every passing moment. I tried to fight as death attempted to latch onto me. I didn't want to leave her. She needed me.

I knew that much.

Suddenly she shrieked again, and this time blood spurted out her mouth as well. A saber had been shoved through her exposed abdomen and now stood perpendicular to her crumpled body.

"No..." I quietly yelled because there was no strength behind my voice.

Once more, she looked at me with her giant emerald eyes and whispered, "I love you, John."

Before the darkness could capture me and before she faded away, I responded.

"I love you, too."

And with that, the two of us, the star-crossed lovers, departed for whatever God had in store.

It all ended simultaneously for us.

And then it began in the same manner...
