"Where are you going," letting his head tilt inquisitively watching her walk away from him.
"Away from here and far away from you," her tone conveyed her mounting frustration. She couldn't stand being near him one more moment. "Oh and Grissom," glancing back over her shoulder," the hourglass is almost empty." She was gone.
He stood there gaping at the space she had graced a few moments before. Hands in his pockets, knowing he did something else wrong, just not sure what. If anyone could see him at that second in time, they would have clearly seen the lightbulb go off in his mind. Breaking into a dead run for the parking lot, he hoped to catch her before she left.
Sara was just pulling out of her parking space.
"Sara, stop please," he hollered a look of desperate determination on his face.
She stopped, rolled down the window, "Dammit, Grissom, I need to get away from you. I thought I made that clear inside." She was utterly disgusted with him no longer willing to let her heart be stepped on.
"Sara, please don't go. Whatever I did I'm sorry," his deep blue eyes revealed the depth of sadness he felt, as he stepped up to her car door. "I've figured this out."
Her face went from dark anger to a sunny day, as she flashed him her hundred watt smile. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?"
He stepped out of the way, "pull back in please, I need to say this now."
Sara pulled back into her parking slot. No matter how upset she had been with him, she needed to hear what he had to say.
He slipped into her passenger seat, touched her cheek and gently turned her head to face him, "Sara, forgive me, I'm sorry I took so long."
"You've lost me, Grissom. Where are you going with this?" She was so hoping to hear the words she had longed for him to say.
"Sara, honey, I love you. I'd like to see where this may lead, if you are still willing to give us a try," he laid his cards out on the table. Even though the night air was quite cool, he found that he had broken out in a sweat.
Her heart was racing, her dreams were about to all come true, she had never experienced this level of happiness before. "Do you know how long I have loved you? Do you know how I have longed to hear you say those words?"
"So, I'm not too late," he had to ask, it was the only fear he had left.
"You almost were," she replied.
