Chapter 1
Chesnut
Sonic was on his daily run when he discovered that something was not quite right. He felt heat coming at him from all sides. He continued to run, trying to locate the source of the heat. It was becoming more and more intense as he went further in. Soon it became too hot and Sonic was forced to stop and turn around.
But he stumbled blindly back as a wall of flames blocked his exit. Sonic began to sweat, and the sweat dripped down into his eyes, clouding his vision. Trees fell all around him, and he jumped wildly to avoid them. The wall of flames becam higher, and hotter. Sonic jumped on the burning trees, looking for somewhere he could jump over. No such luck.
The trees burned his rubber soles and started to fuse them with his feet. Sonic ripped his shoes off and ran as fast as he could trough the flames. And he didn't stop there. Sonic ran and ran. He left a bloody trail behind him. It was a little while until he remembered no more.
Perhaps hours later, Sonic awoke. A blinding light greeted his blurry eyes. It took him a few minutes to adjust, and when he did, Sonic noticed a dark figure in the unilluminated area of the already dark cave. "Ah, you're awake," it said. Sonic was unable to tell it's gender by the voice alone. "It has been a long time, hedgehog."
"H-How do you know me??" Sonic was dumbfounded. The voice turned cold. "That is not important," it hissed. "I must go now." And it sped past Sonic with inhuman speed. Even the light it passed through could not reveal it's face. Sonic tried to run after it, but his feet were still sore, and he tripped. He tumbled, and hit one of the cave walls. He looked up, and saw a giant stone carving. It was in a language Sonic had never seen before.
Suddenly a crack appeared around the hieroglyphics and formed a rounded rectangle. It fell, barely missing Sonic. He picked it up, and just then, the same voice echoed through the cave, coming from nowhere, and everywhere.
"I am all around you." Sonic looked around, searching for the spot where the voice was coming from.
"I am the trees, I am the sky," The sky became dark, and the air got cold.
"The ground on which you walk." Sonic's heart began pounding, though he did not feel any fear.
"I am the air you breath," The air suddenly became very thick, and Sonic's lungs gasped for air.
"Every sound you hear," A high-pitched sound assaulted Sonic's ears.
"Everything.....you.....see." Sonic's eyesight went blurry and out of panic, he dropped to his knees.
"Death is essential......" All of Sonic's senses went numb, and his world turned black. "You understand, don't you?" The voice cackled, looking over the body of Sonic, who at this moment, was dead to the world.
