THE POWER OF A WISH
Chapter 8: Where did it go wrong?
*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*
LAST TIME
"What do you want, Ryou?" Yami shoot back. The light felt hurt, but was more surprised about Yami's reaction.
"Ishizu sends me. She wants to talk to you"
"I thought I made myself clear that the discussion was finished"
"Please Yami. You know it is important."
"Fine" Yami declared defeated.
Yugi stood there, struck for words. What was going on here?
*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~
"Yami?" Yugi asked quietly, tugging at his darker half's sleeve to get the spirit's attention. Though he had never seen his darkness this angry, he wasn't afraid of the older teen as he had the suspicion that the darkness' feelings were more turbulent than he wanted anybody to see. 'Yami isn't really mad, just confused'
The spirit stiffened. "What is it Yugi?" Yami asked calmly without turning to face his hikari. Nothing could make him look at him now. He couldn't stand the tearful and questioning look he would receive.
Despite the cold remark Yugi continued, "Who is Ishizu and what does she want from you?"
"That's none of your concern" the spirit replied in a low icy voice, so only Yugi could hear. The referred one was one the edge of tears, hurt about the little faith his protector put in him.
He looked pleadingly at the one called Ryou, who listened to the whole conversation.
Before Yugi noticed, Yami walked away, but not without shouting back "Ryou, watch Yugi. Make sure nobody hurts him while I'm out".
Ryou nodded, not at all taken aback by the unfriendly request, much to Yugi's surprise. After all, even he was more than uncomfortable with his yami's deterrent behaviour.
"Come on, Yugi" he led the smaller teen inside and to the couch in the living room where both sat down.
"Ryou, will you tell me?" the hikari asked innocently. Nobody could resist this voice.
"About what?" as if he didn't already knew.
"You, Ishizu and most importantly what you know about Yami."
The brown-eyed boy sighed. He was afraid the youth would question him, but he wasn't allowed to tell him. Yami made it quite clear ...
"Well, you already know that my name is Ryou Bakura. I'm Ishizu's assistant. We work at the museum and there we meet Yami yesterday. Ishizu has a millennium item like you. With her millennium necklace she is able to see the future and the past ..." Ryou cut himself off, debating about whether to tell the hikari or not.
But to hell with it! He'll be dead for sure, if Yami ever found out.
"She told Yami about his past and that it is his fate to save the world." The white-haired boy stopped, he definitely said enough. He cursed for mentioning the last sentence. If Yami found out, that he even told Yugi this much ... oh he didn't want to be the spirit's target, when he was angry.
Yugi gulped. So this was the reason, why the spirit was restless in the morning. HE FOUND OUT ABOUT HIS PAST. 'It mustn't be nice memories. He looked so sad. And I didn't help him like he was there for me'
"But why didn't he told me?" this question was meant for himself, but in his hazed mind, he had spoken it out loud too.
"Yami was rather upset when he found out about his past ... He commanded Ishizu and me to not tell you ... I think he didn't want to put you in danger, Yugi. He is concerned about your safety. And to be honest ..."
"I could help him!" Yugi jumped up, angry and furious at Yami for taking away his chance to decide on his own.
"Please Yugi. Calm down. He just wants you to be safe. Yami is your protector after all ... Please Yugi, promise me not tell him. He mustn't know that I told you!"
"I think that's not necessary anymore,"another voice answered.
Ryou froze when he looked up to see Yami standing there, not looking all to happy.
"I'm sorry Yami ... I swear ... I just told him how you know Ishizu and me. I swear that's all ..." the white-haired boy was deadly afraid.
A shout. An Attack. Ryou was prepared for everything, or so he thought. But nothing came.
"Go home, Ryou. Thank you for looking after Yugi" he told him softly, avoiding eye contact with each of them. The last two nights were long and he hasn't any energy left to deal with Ryou now. His hikari would make it complicated enough.
This caught Ryou completely out of guard, but he wasn't one to challenge his luck and practically run outside, but not without flashing the spirit an anxious glance. He noted that the shoulders hang low and that his eyes have a haunted expression in it. What has Ishizu told him this time?
Yugi regarded his other, impatiently shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Yami kept looking at everything else except his hikari. Yami's light bit his lip as he did every time when he was nervous.
"How much do you know?" the spirit started the discussion. He was sure, that the conversation would led to one.
"You remember your past. You met Ishizu and Ryou ... and yes you are destined to save the world" the hikari added with a sarcastic tone.
"I'm sick of it Yami!!! First we were the best of friends and then you started avoiding me. What are you afraid of? Why won't you trust me?" the hikari shouted. It was really getting at his nerves. He knew Yami for what? 3 days? And everything they do was fighting ...
The last statement did it. Yami glared at Yugi with his piercing red eyes "I can trust you? Why should I? I barely know you for kami's sake. And you are the last person who should talk about trust. Who is the one keeping secrets? Yes, I haven't told you about yesterday, but what about you, huh? It isn't only about the dream you had. I talked to your friends ... and do you know what? They told me, that you are hiding more things. So don't talk to me about trust" he yelled.
Tears were now streaming down Yugi's face. He was right. It was him, who wasn't honest. Who was he to judge Yami? Yugi's knees went weak and he broke down on the floor sobbing.
Yami could feel daggers in his heart. *How could I be that blunt? I shouldn't let my anger out at him. He isn't the one to blame.*
"Please Yugi. Stop crying. I'm sorry." The spirit sunk down beneath the youth, cradling him in his arms lovingly.
"Yugi, please stop crying ... I can't see you cry" he stroked his hikari's hair and played with them to calm his charge.
"You know what? Let's start over and forget about this! What do you say Yugi?" Yami suggested, hoping this offer did the trick. *We just started wrong. Now things will be different* Yami assured himself.
"I'd like that" the sniffling teen's tears stopped and he smiled at his protector.
//We'll make it this time!// Yami opened their mind-link. He was curious to know his light's reaction.
"Yami?"
//Yes//
Yugi settled back to look at his friend. /What was that?/
//Our mind link//
/Our what?/ he unconsciously sent back.
//The millennium puzzle makes it possible that we can talk to each other telepathic. I just found out yesterday// he replied with a small smile.
/Why wasn't it working before?/
//Trust. It only works when we trust each other. If one is unsure about the other we can't speak through the link//
Yugi's smile practically split his face. 'Yami trusts me. Yami TRUSTS me. YAMI trusts ME' he was ecstatic. The small light jumped back in his yami's arm, nuzzling his neck affectionately.
Yami picked his hikari up and carried him upstairs.
/Will you sleep in our room?/ the hikari questioned, hoping and praying that the spirit agreed. He always felt so safe and protected with the spirit around. Not to mention the loneliness, which consumed the teen without his yami.
//Yes, aibou// he agreed. He was just as happy as the small teen in his arms. Yami wanted so long to call Yugi aibou. But they become partners only just now.
Yugi hid his face in the spirits chest, so the spirit won't see him blushing. 'He called me aibou! He thinks we are partners' he thought happily before he fell asleep, content with HIS PARTNER.

There will be one more chapter before I stop for 3 weeks. I'll have my exams and I don't think I will have time to write my chapters too. But if I find the time, there'll be updates. I'll be back at least in the second week of May!!!

Sansi: -.- I know, but I can't let them stand mad at each other too long. But the real fight is coming soon ... It's really like a rollercoaster ride – like a reviewer put it. Up and down ...
