Chapter 10: A fragile thing
"Wait, Yugi!!!" a giggling light escaped from it's protector, racing down the street, a Yami hot on it's heels. The two of them grew together this last few days. Yami was barely seen without his hikari and Yugi never left his dark's side. The spent time with the group and even Mai and Seto joined them, but sometimes darkness and light told them, that they have other plans. Then Yami and Yugi were going to the park or were just killing time at home with a movie.
The group noticed, how their relationship was changing and that they were developing a strong bond to each other. They were happy for them and weren't complaining if they were telling them some lame excuses, why they didn't have time to go to the arcade. Yugi and his darkness became a real family, like brothers ... or was there something more ...
"Stop!! Yugi! Give it back!" Yami shouted after his light.
"Let me think about it for a moment ... NO! NO! NO!" he shot back and run faster. It wasn't fair that Yami has longer legs and was catching up
"Got ya!!" was the last thing Yugi registered before he found himself on the ground, with his darkness on top of him.
Yugi turned around to face his darkness and pouted.
"Oh come on, Yugi. Not this look. It's not fair to use it on me. You know I can't resist it!" Yami complained, pouting a little himself.
"Now give it back" he ordered gently.
Without a word Yugi handed Yami the book he 'borrowed'. Yami took it and shoot his hikari a glance that clearly said 'I win'.
Yugi decided against saying something and just rolled his eyes. Yami extended his hand to Yugi as a piece-offer and Yugi accepted and let himself be pulled up by his protector. Then they headed again towards school.
-------------------
Yugi watched the second hand of his watch and quietly begged it to hurry. He wanted this day to be over very soon, faster than normal. His yami told him, he has a surprise for him and Yugi, the inpatient person he was, wanted to know what his protector planned for him. Speaking of him, he stole a glance at the yami.
Yami has a blank glance on his face and looked deep in thought. 'What's wrong with him?' Slightly anxious he tried the link, but found it closed. They worked hard on the mind link and now can control the thoughts and block them if they didn't want the other to hear. He decided to talk to him at lunch instead. Yami would surely talk to him, if something was wrong, wouldn't he?
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
The bell saved Yugi from going mad. The light kept glancing at his darkness and was getting slightly nervous by his yami's behaviour. He packed his things and was about to go to Yami's desk, but found it already empty. The storm in his stomach grew and he hurried to find his other half, not hearing the shouts of his friends, asking him what was going on.
Yugi sighed in relief when he found the spirit sitting under a tree. Head on his knees he was barely visible in the shadow of the tree. He headed towards Yami, but suddenly the figure was gone. The hikari halted and blinked. He could have sworn he saw his darkness there sitting, seconds ago.
"Are you looking for me?" a voice behind Yugi started him.
Slowly turning around he was standing face to face with the person he was looking for.
"Yes, you scared me, you know" Yugi answered, his hand over his fast beating heart.
Yami laughed, "That wasn't my intention."
"What is the matter, Yami! You looked spaced out during class" the light questioned worriedly.
Yami leaned his head to the side, studying his light.
"I was thinking about our enemy. He'll surely attack soon and I'm afraid he will hurt us." the darkness replied.
"I won't let him hurt you. I'll kill him myself if he lays a finger on you. Nobody will take you away from me" he explained firecly, while hugging the spirit around the middle.
A sound behind him caught Yugi's attention. But he has to be hallucinating, because the person standing a few feet away looked a lot like his yami. 'But he can't be. I'm hugging him at the moment.'
The other Yami-person looked surprised and then his glance changed to hurt and betray.
"Marik" the other Yami snarled in Yugi's direction 'Who?' Yugi wondered and turned around to ask his yami, who this person was, but to his shook, the person he was hugging wasn't Yami, but a man with blond hair, tanned skin and scary lavender eyes.
Yugi was confused and let go of the stranger. 'I was embracing Yami, wasn't I? Who is Marik and who is this man?' When the information fit in place he paled. 'Lavender eyes?!?! No, please let me be wrong' he begged to every god he knew.
"Yes, Yami. It seems that your light choose my side he replied in a sarcastic tone. Yugi was still frozen on the spot.
Yami turned around and run, without a second glance at his hikari. Tears were streaming down his face, as he has to face the truth. His hikari betrayed him. No, not his hikari. Everything they shared was a lie. Yugi was now with his enemy, was probably always. The person who wants him dead. No, not his hikari. He hasn't a hikari anymore. He was all-alone, like Ishizu prophesied.
A sharp pain in his head and heart brought Yugi out of his shock. He couldn't feel the connection to Yami anymore. The light searched his mind for Yami's touch, but it was gone.
"Thank you, little Yugi. I'm content that my little illusion worked. You really thought I was your beloved Yami, didn't you. I broke your bond with Yami and now he hates you with all his being. Now I can put my plan in action. He is weak and confused and now an easy target for my next attack. I have to admit it wouldn't have been as easy with your strong bond, but now ... his head is mine. See ya later 'my little partner'" Marik told the lighter half.
Yugi sank to his knees, while Marik went away. He was too tired to care. His yami hated him. The bond broke. His Yami hated him. His Yami hated him.
'Oh god. How must it looked like for him? I'm hugging the person, who wants him dead and I'm exclaiming that I wouldn't let him get hurt. He'll never believe me, that it was all a misunderstanding ... Hell, I wouldn't even believe myself. What I'm going to do now?'
Sorry, I hope it wasn't too confusing. If you have questions leave a review or email me Sansigmx.at.
I apologize for spelling or grammar mistakes in this chapter, (What I mean is, more errors than normal o) because this computer doesn't know any spelling. I'll correct them as soon as my laptop is working again!
Guess who is back in fan fiction-town! My exams are over (ok not really, but the second and in my opinion easier part is only in 3 weeks) and you can imagine how tired I was after 4 days and altogether 20 hours of testing. My brain and my laptop decided to shut down, thanks to the SASSA- Virus! – but here I am again, not on my laptop, but on my computer -.-. Hopefully I'm now able to post my chapters regular again! o Also watch out for my new fics 'He is spoilt for choice' and 'Darkness consumes the light' in the next days.
