Chapter 16: What is left ...
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yugi and the others were starring at the place where Yami and the Dark Magician occupied just a moment before. Weak moaning announced that the people around them were slowly waking up. Disorientated they rose and walked back to the school building, confused about their black out and the damage of the school building. By the way, why were they all out and unconscious? There must had been a hurricane ...
The only left were the bunch of friends with the Egyptians Malik and Ishizu. Malik remained unconscious. He only had a few cuts, much to the annoyance of Joey, Tristan, Seto and Mai as they remembered the serious wounds of their friend Yami.
But first they had to take care of Yugi and then worrying about a way to find the pharaoh. Joey stood behind the hikari, reluctantly laying a hand on the smaller one's shoulder. The best friend was afraid; how Yugi would take the Dark Magician's accusation. But really, there was nothing Yugi could have done.
The light remained unresponsive. "Yugi! You couldn't have prevented it from happening. There was nothing you could have done! Yugi! Yugi! SNAP OUT OF IT!!!" Joey shock his best friend, scared for his well-being. Yugi seemed to be in shock.
"I-Ishizu" a weak voice spoke.
"I'm here brother. I'm here. How are you feeling, Malik?!" Ishizu questioned.
"I'm fine, Ishizu. Just a little tired. I'm so sorry. So sorry ..." Malik apologised.
"If you dare to tell him it's alright I kill him!" a furious voice interrupted the reunification of the siblings. The angered voice belonged to Yugi, now looking at Malik with deep hatred.
"I'm sorry ..." Malik mumbled again.
"But that doesn't bring HIM BACK. IT DOESN'T BRING HIM BACK. Everything is YOUR FAULT! YOUR FAULT" Yugi dropped to his knees crying, tears of anger and desperation.
Malik looked at the ground, ashamed of his actions.
"But Yugi ... It wasn't Malik's fault. It was Marik, Malik's yami. He seized hold of Malik when he got the Millennium Rod. Please, Yugi. It wasn't his fault. Forgive him" Ishizu defended her brother.
"And-do-you-think-that-helps-me?" the small boy demanded between hiccups. "Nothing is going to bring him back. So keep your apologies, because I won't accept them."
"And if I can bring him back?" Malik asked in a small voice, barely heard by the others, but enough to give the lighter half new hope.
The group gasped. Yugi crawled towards the former dark priest, looking him directly in the eye to see if the boy told the truth. Seeing that Malik wasn't lying, his heart nearly exploded with joy.
"How?! HOW?!" he demanded impatiently. Malik didn't reply, but pointed at Yugi. Despite the situation Yugi looked confused, tending his head to the side cutely. "Me?" Yugi asked, pointing at himself dumbfounded.
Joey was the first to see what he was getting at. "No Yugi. He means the puzzle!" he exclaimed excitedly, clearly proud at his genius mind. The others sweatdropped. Seto just snorted. In his mind Joey was just a stupid puppy ... [I couldn't resist]
"My brother is right. The puzzles are connected. They might be able to find each other if they get separated" Ishizu thought out loud.
That was enough to make Yugi smile and to warm the hearts of the friends.
"But there is a problem ..." Malik interrupted, hating himself for crushing the new hope. The hikari looked like somebody punched him in the face. Malik flinched visibly.
"We can find him, if he has enough energy ..." Malik started, but got promptly interrupted by Mai.
She was sick of waiting, she was a woman for action, not sitting around and twiddling one's thumbs. Inwardly she felt horrible for not being able to help Yami to defeat Marik. "Spill it out already!"
"I mean that it is only going to work if the puzzle receives enough energy from Yami. As you probably know, the puzzle feeds from Yami's life vitality ..." Joey, Tristan and Yugi were nodding to themselves, remembering their first encounter with Malik. Yami had to use the puzzle to fight Malik and this drained his energy. Tristan told Mai and Seto what happened as they weren't members of the group by that time. When he finished the past priest continued. "... and if he is to weak or worse ..." Malik trailed of, not wanting to go into details "... we won't find the pharaoh".
"You are trying to tell us that we just have to sit and wait till the puzzle reacts to something!" Seto summarised bluntly. He massaged his temples, getting a headache from all the nonsense of the Egyptians. Seto Kaiba didn't believe a word of what they were telling, to begin with; he didn't believe in all the magic crap, but he was willing to try if it is going to bring Yami back. Some people might call him cold, but he would never let a friend down.
"I suggest we bring Malik to the hospital and ..." Ishizu began, but was promptly interrupted by the mentioned before either Yugi or the others could complain, which they surely would have done.
"We wait here until we get a sign from the pharaoh!" Malik told Ishizu, leaving no room for arguments. Joey and Yugi looked content with the suggestion.
"No!" Seto stated firmly. "We are taking my private plane and fly around, probably we find him quicker this way" he told them and phoned his office, not waiting for a reply. He was a businessman after all and always did as he pleased.
The group watched him gratefully and Yugi attached himself to Seto's waist, saying 'thank you' uncountable times.
Seto was slightly taken aback by this action, but smiled nonetheless at him. If this little boy meant that much to his best friend Yami, that he would risk his own life to save him, he was willing to become his friend too.
Only minutes later the group was sitting in Seto's private jet, determined to find Yami.
