Chapter 17: The power of the puzzle

The group of seven namely, Yugi, Joey, Tristan, Mai, Seto, Ishizu and Malik was getting exhausted. Hours and hours past and there was still no sign that the pharaoh was still alive. They didn't talk a lot, mostly keeping their thoughts to themselves. To spot Yami in this height was impossible and they knew it, but they kept silent against their better judgement. Still not giving up they kept flying around, hoping and praying that the millennium puzzle, safely placed in Yugi's lap, would react.

Seto was becoming more and more frustrated. Patience was never a part of attitude, plus the fact that their tank was nearly empty, meaning that they had to return to Domino city soon. Watching Yugi worriedly from the corner of his eyes, he saw that his face was pressed against the window, the millennium puzzle cradled in his arms. Shaking his head at the sad view, he decided to inform them about the fact, that they were going to give up, for today at least. He hated to tell Yugi this, but he doubted that the others would to it. "Once again the bad ass" Seto murmured quietly.

"Guys," he said to get their attention. "We have to stop for today. It's getting dark and the tank is empty ... I'm sorry Yugi, but I promise you, that we won't give up. We will find him!" Seto told the teen, who looked at him with sad and tired eyes.

Yugi bit his lip in desperation. Despite the fact that they had to fill up the jet, he felt that his friends were losing hope. He clutched the golden puzzle more tightly against his chest, ignoring that the corner of the millennium item was hurting his skin.

The light tried to hold back tears, but they were falling nonetheless down his porcelain face to land on the puzzle. The bearer of the puzzle didn't want to admit it, but he was giving up on Yami himself and this fact increased his pain all the more.

'Yami! Where are you?' the hikari thought sadly. He softly traced the millennium puzzle, setting all his hope in the item. 'Please help to find my yami. I wish to have him by my side again' Yugi pleaded with the golden artefact.

As if the millennium puzzle heard his thoughts, or probably it did, it began to glow slightly.

Malik was the first noticing the change and shouting excitedly, "It glows! It reacts to something. Guys, look!!! The puzzle glows!"

The passengers turned to Malik suspiciously and then to Yugi and the puzzle. Seeing, that the once bad priest spoke the truth, they began to cheer.

"I don't want to spoil the fun, but we still run out of gasoline." Seto announced with a dark face. His friends replied with angry growling. Joey was about to shot a nasty answer to Seto for crushing their happiness, but the latter was quicker.

Turning to Yugi Seto smirked and he stated, "But we will start as soon as they filled the jet up" Yugi's face broke out in a wide smile, lightening the depressing mood in the plane.

After they had refuelled the jet, they started again as Seto promised. Yugi insisted that his friends could stay at home, knowing that they were all awfully tired, but they only mock-insulted him in reply, telling him that nothing could hinder them on their search for Yami.

Yugi and Mai, sitting next to each other, soon found out that the puzzle glowed brighter if they approached the darker half's whereabouts. 'Better than a map'

Joey and Tristan were with Seto, looking on the map, trying to find out where they were travelling to. Ishizu was taking care of Malik, despite his heavy protests.

"Are we there yet?"came Joey's bored question, starting the routine, taking place every 15 minutes.

"No!" the group responded sulky, annoyed by Joey's behaviour. Why was he asking the same question every quarter hour? They even considered gagging him, but then decided that that was too much effort as he would probably find another way to irk them.

"... and when are we there?" Joey asked further, challenging his luck. Seto was about to strangle him, but to the sand-blonde's luck Tristan saved him, keeping the CEO in check.

Seto turned his attention back to the map, when something caught his eye.

"Ishizu" he asked the Egyptian woman, not taking his eyes of the map.

"Yes?" Ishizu asked curiously, watching the CEO.

"Where did Yami rule in his past?" he question, even if he suspected the answer already. Most probably she did mention it before. No, the dark priest Marik told them.

"Pharaoh Yami ruled over Egypt. Why did you ask?" Ishizu told him. By the time the other passengers of the jet listened to their conversation.

"Because that is where we are heading to", Seto replied, pointing with his finger to Egypt in Africa. And really, now comparing their route with the map they could see it.

"How could the Dark Magician take Yami there?" Tristan asked the question, which all in the jet wanted to know. They all suspected, that the yami was still in Japan.

"Magic. How else?" Malik pointed out the obvious, earning an annoyed look from his travelling companions.

"I always wanted to visit Egypt. The guys there are really cute" Mai exclaimed excitedly. All eyes turned to her, then burst out laughing.

"How long until we arrive there?" Yugi questioned, while jumping out of his seat in excitement.

Seto looked at his clock then checked their position and replied, "I think 3 more hours, depending on where exactly Yami is"

"I suggest, that we all sleep a little. You'll need your energy in the desert." Malik spoke up, speaking out of experience.

Nobody argued and they all made themselves comfortable in their seats, trying to claim as much sleep as possible.
