Author's Note: this is my first Danny Phantom fic, and it's a drabble that wouldn't leave me alone, so please forgive me for any mistakes. It's not too good, but I felt the urge to write and it wouldn't let me go.
Disclaimer – Danny Phantom belongs to Butch Hartman.

They Named Him Daniel
-----
They named him Daniel.
He should have been mine.
I do not much care for the girl. She is unique, yes, and she's vastly intelligent. I don't think she knows, though, for all that intelligence. I don't think she knows about him, and she's not special… not like Daniel. She's not like him at all.
I'm the only one like him, and so he should be mine.
I've lived my entire life since that accident wanting to reclaim what should be mine. Maddie has always been first on the list. She was stunning in college as a young woman, but now she's devastatingly beautiful as a mother. When she stepped into my home, I wanted to take her right then and never return. Jack would not have been able to stop me; my powers outrank his ghost-capturing talents highly. I should have taken his wife. She was mine in college. She would have been mine for life if not for him.
But now I know about Daniel, and Maddie has moved to second on my life. I could always have found another girl, after all. But Daniel… he's a world apart from everyone besides myself. We're two of a kind, Jack's son and mine. We both have origins from the Other Side.
I want to train him. He has so much potential, so much more to offer than to fight those he should feel kin to. After Jack ruined my life, I was not as tipsy as Daniel. He walks a thin line between where he should. Befriending some ghosts and not the other is hypocritical. You cannot love one and denounce the rest. It is a fact in nature that I believe needs to be heeded by all.
But he is young, and not wise, and so I can't hold it against him too much.
But I wish to train him in my ways. I've long had the desire to rule the Other Side. Most of those ghosts who inhabit the Other Side are ghosts who could care less about what they have and what they need. I am not power-hungry, no, but I do yearn for some sort of control in my life. Jack has proved to be a terrible burden to destroy, but with the help of others from the Other Side, it should be easy to accomplish.
And with Danny Phantom at my side, none shall oppose my rule, of course. I need a right-hand man, and who better than the boy who should have been my own son? And with Maddie by my side… it would be a lovely family, I believe.
That is why I gave the hunting equipment to the girl. Her thirst for revenge is something I admire, as is her determination in accomplishing her goal. She sees Daniel as the epitome of evil, a ghost who hurt her for the pure pleasure of it. I do not like that image she sees in my boy, but what can I do? I supplied her with the tools she needed to capture him, and when the time comes and she does, I shall steal him from her and teach him, for he will have no other choice.
I will train him, and when I finally take other the Other Side, he will be mine.
They named him Daniel, didn't they?
And he should have been mine.
