Simple, nothing less

A/N: umm, my first attempt at a semi-serious storie. Kinda stinks, but tell me what you think!

A golden hedgehog raced twoards the terrible creature called Chaos. He had finally absorbed all 7 Chaos Emeralds. They had been fighting so hard, so long, but in vain as they could not protect the emeralds. Only one thought raced through the hedgehog's mind. 'I've got to win, for the saftey of the whole world!' But he was running out of time, and fast. Chaos directed an energy blast at him, but the hedgehog thought fast, jumping out of the way, then using his own attack. Chaos raored in pain, then swept out his tendrils. They struck the hedgehog, but not before Chaos was struck for the last time. He gave a roar that shook the ground, then dissapeared in a flash of light, and the golden hedgehog was nowhere to be seen.

"Sonic!" cried Amy, a pink hedgehog. Worry grew in her eyes. Nearby, a yellow two-tailed fox flew over the area, despretley scanning for Sonic. He couldn't be gone, he was like a big brother to him. "Tails, can you see him?" Amy yelled up to him. "Not yet," he called back, sadness in his tone. He thought back to the promise he had made long ago.

It was a nice day on Mobius, the planet where they were from. Sonic and Tails were just relaxing, enjoying the year round nice weather. "Hey Sonic, ever heard of the Chaos Emeralds?" Tails had asked. "No," Sonic had replied. "What are they?" "They're 7 powerful gems that can summon a powerful beast called Chaos when they're in one place." "Who's this 'Chaos' guy?" Tails laughed a little, "Chaos is supposedly the god of destruction and he grows stronger each time he absorbs an emerald."

"That wouldn't be good if he came here, would it?" Sonic said. "But if he does ever come, I want you to promise me something." "What?" "I want you to promise that no matter what, you'll never give up. Promise?" "Promise," Tails agreed.

That was then, when they didn't worry about much of anything. But this was now, long after an explosion sent them through time to Earth. It was a new playing field and it was the planet that had the advantage. They had no idea what they would be up against when they first came.

They all still longed for the old days, when peace ruled. Sonic had always helped enforce that, but now that he was gone, the world would fall into chaos as we know it. Tails landed, sadness and guilt tearing at him. "Did you find him?" Amy asked anxiously. Tails hung his head, "No, I couldn't find him." "No!" Amy cried, bursting into tears. Tails comforted her, tears falling down his own cheeks. He wanted to keep his promise, for Sonic, but how could he? He didn't even know where to begin to look.

It was late, and the sun was setting. They would start a search tommorow. Tails walked Amy home before flying off to Mystic Ruins. All the while, he was thinking about Sonic. He was so brave, Tails wanted to be just like him. He wanted to be just as brave, just as fast. Tails had his own strengths and weaknesses, and he certainly had good qualities. But he was nothing without Sonic around. He kept his spirits up. He kept his love for builing in high gear. But without Sonic, none of that mattered. He went to bed with sadness in his heart.

Gee, that's kinda sad, isn't it? But sorry, I was a rookie when I wrote this. I like comments!
