They sat together leaning against the wall. There was no further need for words and she leaned into his shoulder contentedly. He brought his other arm around her to draw her more fully to him, and she sighed, burying her face against his chest, lulled by his warmth and the steady thrum of his heart beneath her ear. For long moments they sat thus, content to just be. Slowly, the rhythm of his heart began to change to a slightly faster, insistent drumming. She pulled her head from his chest enough to turn her face to look up at him to see dark brown eyes staring intently at her. Her eyes widened fractionally and her breath began to quicken. The intense brown eyes never wavered. She felt weak in his arms, and her eyelids fluttered closed as her lips parted. He took her mouth with his own, then, kissing her deeply. Her hand moved up to the back of his neck, caressing the short hairs there, and she responded completely, melding herself to him. Through that kiss they poured out emotion long held silent and somehow each knew the other was their completion. When the long kiss finally ended, he pulled her tightly to himself and she wrapped her arms around him in a fierce embrace. Tears sprang unbidden from both their eyes and they knew they had touched something rare that might never be theirs again. They continued to hold each other, not willing to lose what they had so tentatively grasped. Leaning back against the wall, warm in each other's arms, sleep finally overtook Thera and Jonah.
