Once upon a time, these were the moments he lived for.
Not the "being chased by savage killers" bit, although that does add a certain spice to the enterprise. Just the flying, the feeling of complete and total control. High-speed atmospheric maneuvering always seems to be the purest form of flight, the times when he feels the most connected to the ship. His vision seems to widen out; he can feel every inch of Serenity through the controls; he can almost see the wind currents and compensate for them before they shift. In a very real sense, he is the ship at times like these, and everyone's fate is literally in his hands.
Yeah, once these were the moments he lived for. Now, though...
"Captain, I'd like you to take the helm for awhile. I need this man to tear all my clothes off."
Now there's something much better.
