He was sitting in a bar, just to get away from the prying eyes of the others. His elbows were on the counter, head in hands. A shot of Jack Daniels was placed in front of him and he snatched it up quickly. As he backed it his ears caught the soft singing of a girl several bar stools down and his hand paused, poised in midair.

"Scold me failed her

If only I'd held on tighter to her

Pale white skin

That twisted and withered away from me, away from me"

He got up quickly, slamming the shot glass down. He double taked as he realized how many of the little glasses there were in front of his stool. A scowl deeped his face and he turned quickly, duster blooming in the air, the straps fluttering in the air. He passed by the girl on his way out, making sure to take in a deep wiff of her scent.

The dark man took up residence next to the exit of the bar and immediately grabbed up the girl as she walked out. "What song was that?!" He demanded harshly. As he saw the frightened look on her face he softened and let her go, running a nervous hand through his hair. "I'm sorry..." The girl stared at him for a moment, "What song?" The man quickly recited the words for her and a look of recognition flashed across her face. Out of fear of what the seemingly unstable man would do she got out as quickly as her tongue would let her, "Strawberry Gashes, by Jack Off Jill." The man nodded and quickly took off, leaving the girl behind him in amazement and uncertainty.

Once at home with the CD "Clear Hearts, Grey Flowers" he sat musingly near the speakers. He studied every word that was sung.

"Turn her over

A candle is lit, I see through her

Blow it out and save all her ashes for me

Curse me sold her

The poison that runs its course through her

Pale white skin with strawberry gashes all over all over

Watch me fault her

You're living like a disaster

She said kill me faster

With strawberry gashes all over

Called her over

and asked her if she was improving

She said, "Feels fine,

It's wonderful, wonderful here"

Hex me, told her

I dreamt of a devil that knew her

Pale white skin with strawberry gashes all over, all over

Watch me fault her

You're living like a disaster

She said kill me faster

With strawberry gashes all over, all over

I lay quiet

Waiting for her voice to say

"Some things you lose,

and some things you just give away"

Scold me failed her

If only I'd held on tighter to her

Pale white skin

That twisted and withered away from me, away from me

Watch me lose her

It's almost like losing myself

Give her my soul

and let them take somebody else

Get away from me

Watch me fault her

You're living like a disaster

She said kill me faster

With strawberry gashes all over, all over me"

By the end of the song the man's eyes were clouding with tears. He didn't let them spill over. Just thought, and thought, and thought. So many memories and feelings were conjured up just because of this one song...

"Darla."
